HR. ALLEN would respectfully call the attention of cit-
izens and strangers visiting the city to his Room
where by means of the most perfect apparatus hitherto con-
structed together with the lilest improvements in operating
he is enabled to take Daguerreotype Portraits which for
beauty and accuracy of delineati- n cannot be surpassed.
Mr Allen has recently added to his establishment a new anil
powerful Achromatic Camera which enables him to take Por-
traits and Miniatures from the smallest size to the largest.
The unavailing regrets often expressed by those who have
lost relatives or friends that they do not possess their likeness
should induce every person to have the portraits of those near
and dear to them taken by this cheap and perfectly accurate
process. Miniatures taken in all kinds of weather wihor

PROSPECTUS OF
THE -CONGRESSIONAL UNION'
PENDIX" &c.
AND "AP-
THE undersigned respectfully inform thr public that with
the commencement of the approaching session ol L ongress
ihev will begin the publication olthe "Congressional Union"
ajid "Appendix." The first will contain a full and accurate
history ot tne daily proceedings of both blanches of ihe nation-
al legislature ll will be compiled with such care that every
citizen who isinterested in the public affairs will fiud it a com-
plete synopsr of their piocefdings and a ready book of refer-
ence upon all questions which come before them.
The second (ihe "Appendix") will contain very speech
which is delivered in the House of Representatives and Senate
during ihe session reported at length by a full and able corps
of cuiignssional reporters and revised before publication by
the authors whenever ii is requested. These two works will
be strictly imj arlial and are intended to be as in erest:ng and
useful to the man of business and to ihe politician of the one
party asof the other. .
It may be said without exaggeration that the next session
of Congress is destined to be one of the most fmportanl which
hw taken place since the foundation of the govtrnraent. It is
the long session. It is ihe session which will develope the ge-
neral plan ot the present administration. Iismc.sures will
stamp the character of our institutions for yea: s to come. Some
of the most important questions which are connected with our
foreign relations or our domestic concern" will be pn sented
for their ci-nsidetalion. The final measnie of ratifying th-
constitution of Texas which is lo consumma e her admission
tntoouj Union and the admission of her members inio our
public councils every measure which affecis the Oregon
question our relations with Mexico as well as the final de-
cision on the revived Zol -Verein treaty ihese and other
tneasuies which are more or less connected ith our foreign
relations will come under the review oi the approaching Con-
gress. Most of the em nently important questions which re
late to our internal roncerns the revision of the Tariff ihe
adoption of the best mode lor preserving Ihe public money a
variety of commercial measures perhaps the best s-stem tor
regulating the important interests of Texas ihe Indian ques-
tionsthe land question the beat system for our naj these
and others will constitute a mas of business which is cab ula-
ted to command much ot the time of Congress and much ofthe
attention of "he people. They will all be reported by the "Con-
gievsional Union."
The Daily Semi-Weeklyand Weekly Union will jsnsual.
embrace an interesting variety of matter on political scientific
and literary subjrcis along with the current news of the day.
The editor will continue to devote all his energies to the im-
p.ovement of ".The Union." He finds m-ny accomplished
men in this city. The administration has brought wi h it a
considerable accession ol talet.is. Several tried and distin-
guished members ofthe democratic party have accepted office
under it. Some of them have liberally con'nbuted their lite-
rary labors toour benefit ; and we hope lo enlist others in our
service. Besides the time is not far disianl when the editor
intends to call other talents to his assistance. His ambiiionis
lo make his paper worthy ofthe metropolis of the Union. He
is persuaded that with the facilities which his position enables
him to enploy ; with the official and other materials placed
within hisreach; and with the aid ofthe correspondence whfch
he i- attempting lo establish in foreign countries a paper may
be published utiich is not unworthy ofihcsupport ofhiscoun-
try. In undertaking the task he knew he had many difiicnl-
ti -s to overcome many lessonto learn many sacrifices toen-
counter. He knew that amid tbe arduous cares of a newthe-
dtre he could not ai first do justice even to himself; but his
ze 1 has never flagged. What enthusiasm and indusliy can
effect will be fully accomplished. Some errors he may have
already committed. Bin upon one point he can speak with
great pleasure and with equal fieedom. The men who are
administering this government are working men anxious as
he believes to do their duty lo rve their country to carry
out the pledges under which the President was elected and the
grit principlesof iheparty. So long as ihe admin isija'ion is
conducted in thisspirit aud upon those principles he is prepa-
red to co-operate with ihem in the public service; and to give
th m a.s lie promised in his prospectus "a lair liberal and
efficient fupport."
We feel a deep sense of gratitude for the prompt manner in
which our political friends in every section of the country
have already come forward t sustain Ihe i'Union " May we
not hope lhat our friends throughout the United Staies will con-
tinue to assist our labors and pievail upon their friends to take
some one edition ofthe "Union 1
