sand dead ducks have betn swept ashore on the west

the residence of Gen Sherman: and we iearnTrom gen-
tlemen reaidingin other parts of the lay that thebodies
of these biids line the shore quite round to the mouth of
ihe Trinity river The carcasses of ihe.deadfowl are
he.iped together in great quantities in some of the small
coves of the bay and as they "are now putrifying the
stench from thim is intolerable. Such a phenomenon

suppose that the food taken by these birds was of a poi-
