Onalaska still undefeated
Livingston men
take softball win
The Livingston men's soft-
ball team found itself having
to overcome some early
inning outfielding misques
and the usual fireball
pitching of Smiley Sylestine
to finally wrangle a 7-5
victory over the Texas
Indians Friday night at the
Indian Reservation ball park.
At the end of two innings
the Texas Indians had gained
a 4-0 lead over Livingston by
virtue of several back-to-back
fielding errors and home
runs by Smiley Sylestine, a
two-run effort in the first
inning and Ricky Sylestine. a
one-run homer in the third.
By the end of four,
Livingston had regained
enough poise through some
position changes to subdue
the Indians defensively,
while exploding for five runs
and the lead.
Late in the game the Texas
Indians added another run,
but Livingston had already
tallied homeruns by Billy
Stutts and Chuck Hinton to
secure a 7-5 victory.
Sylestine was nudged for
eight hits and three bases on
balls, and managed to strike
out five batters.
Sid Williams pitched for
Livingston, giving up five
runs on six hits, and striking
out one Texas Indian
slugger.
In the second game played
Friday, the Arrowheads
applied a 10-run rule win to
the Warriors, 12-0.
Mike Scoggins of the
Arrowheads pitched a
perfect game, up until the
fifth inning, allowing no
runs, no hits and no bases on
balls.
Lowell Sylestine, pitcher
for the Warriors brought
Scoggins' string to a halt
when, with two out, he hit a
long ball to right field for a
single.
Scoggins struck out the
next batter, stranding
Sylestine and salvaging a
one-hit win.
Scoggins struck out six
batters and was backed up by
tough play from the
Arrowheads’ fielders.
Sylestine saw his pitches
result in Arrowhead hits 15
times while allowing two
bases on balls and striking
out one batter.
After the dust had settled
on Thursday and Friday
night's Dixie Youth League
baseball combat. Onalaska
remained the only unde-
feated team in Dixie Youth
League with a won-lost
record of 5-0.
Thursday, the Yankees
continued their losing streak,
submitting to the Cards,
11-7, and Big Sandy upped
their record to 2-3 in a, 12-3.
rout of the Phillies.
Friday, the White Sox
edged the Giants. 6-5, and
Onalaska outlasted the A's of
Goodrich. 6-5. in seven
innings.
Ernest Harrell of the
Yankees turned in pitching
statistics Thursday including
six runs allowed on two hits
and nine bases on balls, and
two strikeouts.
Donald Brown came in the
third inning to allot five runs,
two hits, two walks and three
strike outs.
Keith Lemons got three
hits at three times at bat with
two singles and a double for
the Yankees.
Brown was two of three as
was Harrell.
M. Westcott went the
distance for the Cardinals,
giving up seven runs on nine
hits and three bases on balls
while earning eight strike
outs.
The Phillies could manage
only three runs, all in the
fifth inning, against Big
Sandy while, the Wildcats
drove in one run in the first
inning, four in the third and
fourth, and three in the sixth.
The winning pitcher was
Joel Moore while M. Reeves
took the loss for the Phillies.
Moore gave up three runs,
eight hits, one base oo balls
and struck out eight batters.
Reeves gave the nod to 12
runs. 13 hits and five walks
while striking out 12.
Big Sandy's Melissa
Barrett connected with a
three-run homer in the top of
the sixth inning.
Anthony Hendrix went
three for three at the plate.
Moore amassed a single
and a double in three times
at bat.
For the Phillies. R.
Haynes. Reeves and M.
Johnson were all two of three
with one single and one
double.
Friday, the White Sox
were down. 4-2, after three
and a half innings, scored
four runs in the bottom of the
fourth and added two more in
the fifth, clinchiog the
victory.
Keith Smith pitched for

Giants pitcher P. Cunbow
lasted the entire five innings.

inning, stealing the show
from the A's and keeping
their undefeated status.
C. Johnson and R. Vincent
comprised the Onalaska

in Farm League baseball.
Friday, the Astros blanked
the Phillies, 16-0, and the
Reds finished ahead of the

confrontation, Terry Smith

fourth inning home run by
the Hornets’ Craig Davis,
and six bases on balls.
Davis shared the Hornets'
pitching along with Jeff
Marsh.
Together, they allowed 11
runs on twenty bases on balls
and one batter hit by a pitch.
Richard Whatley and Lyn
Lemons pitched for the
Braves in the second game
Thursday, while Sidney Cox
and Johnny Murphy had the
distinction of being the A’s
pitchers.
Cox and Murphy were
taken for six runs, seven hits,
two walks and three batters
hit by pitches, and had eight
strike outs. Lemons and
Whatley allowed one run, on
one hit and four bases on
balls while totalling 10 strike-
outs.
Lemons drove in all of the
Braves first inning points
with a three run home run.
Steven Wood had yet
another homerun for the
Braves, a lead off blast in the
third inning.
Friday, the Phillies
collected eight hits including
a second inning homer by
Steve Manning and triple by
Steve Puckett in the third
period of play.
Those hits coupled with
four bases gained on balls
and one when the batter was
hit by a pitch, led to the 16
Astros runs.
The game came to a halt
after the top of the fourth
Inning saw the Phillies
remain scoreless.
Stephen Gilger took the
loss while Keith Brown was
the winning pitcher for the
Aatros.
Brown struck out seven
batten while GUges totalled
two strike outs.
In Friday’s second match,
the Reds led, 4-2 after the
first inning, the Coft 45’s
drove and in two runs in the
second to knot things up bat.

Orioles maul Indians
The Orioles scored six runs
in the first inning and added
two in the second inning, one
in the fourth and four in the
fifth, to take a 10-run rule
win over the Shepherd
Indians, 13-3, Thursday
night in Dixie Boy's League
baseball.
In the second game
Thursday. Corrigan jolted
the Cardinals. 8-1.
Anderson and Green
pW.-hed for Shepherd, were
tapped tor 13 r.tns on 10 hits,
and seven bases on balls and
struck out a total of three
Oriole batters.
Shepherd committed three
errors.
Randy Bright pitched the
entire game for the Orioles.
Bright granted three runs,
four hits and two bases on
balls while compiling three
strikeouts.
Rayford Rash led off the
fourth inning for the Orioles
with a home run.
Rash had three hits from
four times at bat including
the home run, a single and a
double.
The American robin is actual-

Tim Moseley went 3-4 as
well with two doubles, one
single and three runs batted
in.
Corrigan led, 7-1. after two
innings of the nightcap and
tallied their eight run in the
seventh inning, while
holding the Cardinals
scoreless for the remainder
of the night.
Corrigan pitchers K.
Duvall and R. Harris joined
forces to give up one run on
two hits and two basei on
balls while producing a
strikeout total of 11.
The Corrigan defense gave
their pitcher support,
throwing out five Cardinal
runners at first base and one
on hia way to third.
Harris managed two hits in
three times at bat, a tingle
and a triple.
Darrell and Brian Duff had
the pitching job for the
Carda.
They handed Corrigan
eight runs, on eight hits, two
baaes on balls and three
errors.
Redbirds win
Women's softball got
underway Thursday with two
games being played at the
Indian Reservation
community center.
The Redbirds bumped
Corrigan, 11-10, In the first
meeting and Chester
outgunned the Honey Beea,
24-20, in the last match.
Dorothy Grissln pitched
for the Redbirds, giving up
10 runs, nine hits and four
walks, while striking out five.
Sue Morrison drew mound
duties for Corrigan, totalling
11 runs allocated, thirteen
hit* and two baaea on balla,
along with tlx batters struck
out.
Debbie Whitworth hit a
three-run third inning home
run for Chester In the
nightcap contest and Pam
Vincent led off with a homer
in the fourth.
Sheila McCarty pitched for
Cheater.
She doled out four hits and
four bases on balla, and
struck out two batter*.
The Honey Bees pitcher
Anna Thompson issued 11
hits and four bases on balls.
She struck out 10 batteta.
