British composers to
be highlighted
HOUSTON-The Houston
Chamber Singers will pre-
sent A Tribute To The
British Concert at 8 p.m.
Saturday, May 24 and at 3
p.m. Sunday, May 25 in
Kinkaid School, 202 Kinkaid
School Drive, Houston.
The concert will feature
the music of composers of
the British Isles, including
Ralph Vaughan Williams’
“Benedicite" with a 21-piece
orchestra; John Rutter, G.
T. Holst, Henry Purcell and
selections from Gilbert k
Sullivan.

Dunfey Hotel of Houston,
w ith one winner scheduled to
attend the national contest.
Christi Loper, daughter of
Cecil and Nelda Loper of
Onalaska, will attend the na-
tional contest in July in Kan-
sas City. She is current Miss
Onalaska Beauty Queen and
added to her collection four
trophies in addition to
crowns and banners from
the Houston contest. She won
large trophies for talent, a
category in lyjiich she per-
formed a son and dance to
the music of “Boogie Woogie
Piggy”
She also placed first
runner-up in beauty, won in
sportswear and in the inter-
view.

Miss Muscular Dystrophy
for collecting the most
money for MD. In Pro-
Modeling she won a trophy
for Best Streetwear.
Karen’s mother, Joy
Bridwell, won first runher-
up in talent modeling in the
mother’s division.
Connie Childers, daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. D. L.
Childers of Onalaska, was
named first alternate in
talent and second alternate
in beauty. She also won Pro
Modeling in western wear.
Her western attire was blue
denim slacks, topped with a
blue satin blouse with full
sleeves, with rows of lace
which matched the lace of
the blouse dickey.
She also won a trophy for
collecting money for
Muscular Dystrophy.
Pat Childers, mother of
Connie, won the mother’s
modeling at the pageant.
Darlene Buffington,
15-year-old daughter of
Charles and Gloria Buff-
ington of Shelter Cove, won
Senior Grand Talent at the
pageant. She also won State
Miss Sweetheart, an award
given for being the most
representative throughout
the previous year. Darlene
also brought home a trophy
for collection for Muscular
Dystrophy.
Kandi Katrina Leenice
Tullous, 5-month-old
daughter of Sam and Donna
Tullous of Shelter Cove, won
the beauty round crown in
the 0-18 months age group at
the Miss Sunflower Texas
Shite pageant. She was judg-
ed on personality, smile,
beauty, appearance and a
personal interview.
In addition to' winning the
beauty crown, Kandi won a
trophy, banner, music box
and cash scholarship.
The baby was entered in
her first contest at the age of
eight days and how has five
beauty titles, one round
crown, four tiaras and 6
trophies. )
KMidi’s older sister, Tif-
fanie Lawhon, competed in
the 4-6 age division. She won
four trophies-first runner-
up beauty, second runner-up
talent, Miss Congeniality
and a trophy for collecting
for Muscular Dystrophy.
Tiffanie was judged on
party dress modeling, sport-
swear modeling, personal in-
terview and a talent presen-
tation. For the talent divi-
sion, she did a song and
acrobatic routine to “Tie a
Yellow Ribbon,” the same
number she presented in the
1979 Folklife Festival as a
part of the Pinetree Players’
presentation of “Pardon Me
Boys, Is This The Onalaska
Choo Choo?.”
Tiffanie’s and Kandi’s
mother, Mrs. Donna Tullous,
also won two trophies. She
won Mother’s Comedy
Talent in which she sang
“Boogie Woogie Piggy” and
did a twirl and dance routine
to “Born To Be Alive.” She
won second runner-up in
Mother’s Comedy Modeling.
