SAYING GRACE
My family's awful impolite,
They laughed right in my face,
And right in front of company
While I was saying Grace.
I always say the blessing
‘Cept when we have a guest,
Then daddy always says it,
Because lie says it best.
Our company stayed about a week,
And the whole time she was there
My dad would mention her each
time
We bowed our heads in prayer.
“Dear Lord,” he’d say, “We thank
thee for
The blessings of this day!
We thank Thee for our friend
who’s here,
May she enjoy her stay.”
And on the day that she would
leave,
My dad surprised me so,
He said, “Now, son, you say the
Grace.”
I bowed my head down low.
I said just what my daddy said,
Changed just a little bit.
I couldn’t say it just the same,
‘Cause then it wouldn’t fit.
Now can you tell me why they
laughed?
I said just what I should,
I don’t know lots of great big
words,
But I did the best I could.
“Dear Lord,” I said, “accept our
thanks
For all You’ve given us.
Thanks, Lord, our guest is going
home,
Don’t let her miss the bus!”
