Corsicana Expects Close Game With Ennis Friday
Lubbock, Tex., Nov. 14, (UP)—
This is the story of an irate prof-
essor, a fun-loving class and a
bat.
The professor, who teaches Eng-
lish at Texas Technological Col-
lege,, pondered long over means to
encourage his class to wait for
him although he habitually arrived
late. Finally he decided to leave
his hat in the room where he ex-
pected to lecture, and informed
his students, “whenever my hat is
here, I am here too. And you
must absolutely just wait for me.”
The next time he came in late
he found a quiet classroom, ab-
solutely empty of students. But
on each desk he found—a hat!

Depending on
Passiiig for Win
Corsicana, Tex., Nov. 14,—A hot
today ana cold tomorrow Ennis
Lion eleven will tackle the resurg-
ent Corsicana Tigers on the local
gridiron Friday night with the
outcome a toss up.
A hint of the closeness of the
coming battle can be seen in the
comparison of scores with three
mutual opponents. Corsicana lost
to Eryan by a 32-14 score and En-
nis dropped that game 18-0, giving
both teams an 18-point difference.
The Tigers lost to Waxy 47-41
and Ennis bowed to that aggre-
gation 6-0, making another 6 point
difference between the two elevens,
while Ennis tunred the trick 31-
0
Corsicana, on the other hand,
bowed to Ellis boro 12-6 while En-
nis beat Hillsboro 7-0. Yet, as far
au offensive strength is concerned,
there is little doubt of the super-
iority of the Corsicana eleven.
Ennis Has Defense
Ennis will field a medium weight
lipe and a speedy backfield to try
to stop the aerial and ground
antics of the locals. Evidence of
24 points scored against the Lions
by Bryan and Waxy. The same two
elevens scored 79 points aginst
Corsicana. But while Ennis was
scoring no points, the Tigers were
scoring 55 points.
But the Lions are reckoning
with a Tiger team that found its
place in life last Friday night to
rock the Indians from Waxy back
on their tepees for four nerve
wracking quarters.
Another Formation
Operating the T formation the
Enfiis eleven has had to contend
with a’ light line that fought like
lions on defense, but couldn’t open
holes on offense. In the starting
backfield will be four clever, ex-
plosive backs in Sonny Toler, 137
quarterbacks; L. C. Parks, 140,
halfback, Jack Brown, 145, half-
back and Rosco Morgan, 161, full-
back.
A fine back on the Ennis elev-
en is Jack Brown, runner deluxe,
who ran wild against Denison, scor-
ing the orly Lion touchdown, that
on a 76 yard jaunt, and scored both
tallies in the Cleburne game.
Erown collected 114 out of 157
yards gained in the Denison game.
Corsicana’s Tigers hit the hard
work trail Monday afternoon with
the entire squad suffering bruises
from the hard Waxy game, which
saw the locals lose a heartbreaker
because of two breaks for the In-
dians in the first half.

the Cleburne Yellow Jackets, has
been susoended from the Cleburne
school for one week and will be
out of the Waco contest. He was
reported to have been expelled
tor shooting a firecracker in the
school auditorium. Jack Proctor,
Cleburne sports writer, devoted his
entire column to objecting to the
action of the Cleburne school offi-
qja is.
Proctor says that all kids like
to shoot firecrackers and certainly
should not be dealt with so dras-
tically when others in the Cle-
burne school are doing much worse.
He wrote: “We live only one
block from the high school and
walk home to lunch every day
from our office. It makes us very
unhappy to be forced to walk a-
round the high school boys who are
shooting dice and matching coins
in the street. We know every
member of the football squad in
Cleburne and not one of them is
in the cast we have just mention-
ed. One of these days we may
step on one juvenile gambler’s
hands, which ive will bet will not
have a firecracker in it.”

We were expecting some scoring
in the- Lion-Tiger melee Friday
night at Corsicana but we think;
Ennis will do the most in getting
tSlUgg, W&^JhfiBfue will be minus
their star back, Milton Boatman
but we tJiink they have enough to
edge out the Wildcats of Temple
and put a crimp in their title
hopes. Bryan gets the nod over
Hillsboro because they are the
home team. The Eagles could win
this one.
Our friend, Paul Moore, sports
editor of the Corsicana Sun, is of
the opinio that one of the larg-
est crowds of the season will see
the Ennis Corsicana clash Friday
night. He writes: “Corsicana Ti-
gers are training for their confer-
ence game here Friday night with
the Ennis Lions at Tiger Field. . .
One of the largest crowds of the
season is anticipated for this game
since practically all of the gridiron
enthusiasts of Ennis can make the
trek to Corsicana . . . The tilt bids
fair to be a hotly-contested bat-
tle.”

the nine months reprseented op-
erating rsults for all of 1946, the
loss still would have been $32,900,-
000, Breech said.
Jefferson City, Mo., Nov. 15,
iUP)—The Ford Motor Company
lost $51,600,000 in the first nine
months of 1946, Ernest R. Breech,
executive vice-president and di-
rector of that giant automobile
manufacturing corporation, reveal-
ed today.
Seldom, n ever, oefore today has
a Ford official volunteered any
information about the company’s
earnings. Uusually in the past,
approximations of profits have
been obtained only from statistics
fil^d by the company with the
Massachusetts commissioner of
corporations.
Breech, a native son, spoke to j
members of the Missouri State su- !
preme court and the state assembly
civic leaders, nearby Ford dealers
and sales officials from Dearborn,
Mich., Kansas City and St. Louis.
He was introduced by Missouri’s
Governor, Phil Donnelly, a boyhood
friend.
The huge loss shown by Ford
during the initial three-quarters
of the current year, Breech ex-
plained, rasulted despite two price
increases—on its models—one in
March and another in May— as
well as a third price boost late in
September, which had “little ef-
fect” on results for the nine
months’ period. The loss was be-
fore the application of possible tax
rebates under the carry-back pro-
visions of the law, which cannot S
