Every year, about this time, the
question of the meaning of the word
“NOEL” comes up. Accord.ng to our
best French dictionary. Noel means
simply, "Christmas;” or carols, or
Christmas songs.

In discussing Hi:' story of the Wise
Men wtih MRS. ED. COLVIN re-
cently, the question which came up
was: "What of the W.sc Mo,n afti*r
their visit to Jesus in Bethlehem?"
Quoting from "The Adoration of
the Magi" by Lucas Van Leyden,
Mrs. Colvin says:
"From the chronicles of passing
centuries we learn that they re-
turned from whence they had come,
where later they received the rite
of baptism from, the hand of St.
Thomas.
"They suffered* martyrdom and
were buried in Constantinople.
"Their bodies were moved to
Milan, thence to Cologne and were
at lust interred in the catherdal
where as the ‘Three Kings of
Cologne’ their sainted presence is
said to have worked miracles which
one may accept or reject. But, as
wise men these characters of
pageantry with all their legendary
mythology gathered through 20 cen-
turies, become important, actors
when, at Christmas, Christians
pause to remember the Christ who
bestowed love and spiritual faith
on those Magi who, according to
Matthew, came to Bethlehem say-
ing: ‘Where is he? for we come to
worship hlfti.’ ’’
