FIRE BREAKS OUT AGAIN EAR-
LY WEDNESDAY MORNING
AND BURNS DWELLING
Mt. rieasant was again visited by
a fire Wednesday morning, which
destroyed a nice home and practi-
cally all the furniture of Mr. and
Mrs. S. C. Scott. This place was
located on the street parallel with
the paved street running north from
the square, and was the property of
O. M. Fuquay, but occupied by Mr.
and Mrs. Scott. Mr. Fuquay had
purchased the place from Mr. Scott
on the Friday previous.
The fire occurred about six o’clock
and was first discovered by a neigh-
bor who saw flames rising from the
roof around the kitchen flue. Mr.
Scott works at night at the Cotton
Belt machine shops, and had just
come in and Mrs. Scott was prepar-
ing breakfast when the fire broke
out, and it is supposed that a defect-
ive flue was the cause, althouglr
there is a report to the effect that
a neighbor saw a man peering into
one of the windows of Wesley Bart-
on's home nearby and fired a shot
at him just before the fire was no-
ticed, and some are of the opinion
that the roamer set the building < on
