FUNNY ENOUGH
NOT DISHONORED
“So Casey pleaded not guilty to a
charge of fighting?”
“He did not!’ retorted Mrs. Cusey
proudly. “He pleaded not present.”
American sermons are too long,
complains a West Indian radio ad-
dict. Isn’t he right? Listening to
the Sermon, one often wonders why
the preacher did not cut it in half
and greatly improve it. A sermon,
if there is any life in it, is largely
an appeal to the emotions, and Poc
was probably right when he said that
sustained appeal to the motions is
impossible. There is a limit to our
capacity to feel. However willing
the spirit, the flesh is weak; exhaus-
tion overtakes it whether or no.
The most eloquent sermon ever
preached contains less than 2500
words and can be read aloud in .15
minutes. It was preached by a car-
penter, from a mountain, and seems
an excellent model. Indeed, it gives
a hint on this very subject.
But when ye pray, use not vain
repetitions, as the heathen do; for
they think they shall be heard for
their much speaking.
Possibly our preachers have fallen
into the same error as the heathen.
If they would save their breath more
people might go to church.—St. Louis
Post-Dispatch.

AN EXHILARATING EFFECT*

at home is like having a doctor in
the house all the time. It gives
instant relief when the digestion
gets out of order or the bowels
fail to act. One or two doses is
all that is necessary to start
things moving and restore that
fine feeling „of exhilaration and
buoyancy of spirits which belongs:
only to perfect health. Price 60c.

Children’s Fatal Diseases
Worms and parasites in the in-
testines of children undermine
health and so weakens their vital-
ity that they are unable to resist
the diseases so fatal to child life.
The safe course is to give a few
doses of White’s Cream Vermifuge.
It destroys and expels the worms
without the slightest injury to the
health or activity of the child.
