STAMPS QUARTET NEWS
July, 1961
Frank Stamps
Speaking
..Another Stamps Quartet School of
Gospel Music is history and it was
one of the best. It was the largest
school in several
years, with be-
tween four and
five hundred stu-
dents from 23
states, including
Alaska and the Ba-
hamas.
The, school
closed with the
24th annual All
Night Singing and
Broadcast from
the Sportatorium
in Dallas. The pro-
gram started at 8 p.m. and continued
until 5 a.m. with KRLD carrying the
program from 10:35 p.m. to 5 am.
The school was taught in Beautiful
Bethel Temple, where our good
friend Rev. Jess Jackson is now^ Pas-
tor. Rev. Jackson has been assistant
pastor for many years. It grieved us
to give up Bro. Albert Ott, who was
forced to resign because of his health,
but we are glad the church gave
their approval of Bro. Jackson.
In many ways this was the best
school we've ever had. All hands . . .
faculty and student body . . . were
on the job and did excellent work.
As far as I know now, we will have
the same faculty back next year and
hope to have most of the students
back also. # .
Our next school in Dallas begins
June 11, 1962, so start making plans
now to attend.
We attended a good convention at
Terrell, Texas the third weekend in
June, The East Texas Singers Asso-
ciation, and enjoyed it very much.
This is an annual affair, so we hope
to be back with them next year. Our
thanks to K. W. Griffin, J. T. Childs
and others for a good time.
It seems to this writer that singing
interest is picking up all over the
country. Larger crowds are attending
and more people are singing. This is
encouraging, but let us not be con-
tented . . . let's keep working to make
it even better. I still say we need
more singing schools. Each church
should have at least one school each
year—more if possible
The Stamps Quartet and I attended
the Old Settlers Reunion at Round
Rock, Texas and this was the largest
crowd we've ever had. We enjoyed it
and our thanks to Vernon Walton, C.
N. Avery and others for all favors.
We would like to thank Mr. Green
for the use of the TEXACO Sound
Truck. It was good to see our friend
“Rip" Collins from San Antonio, also
O. W. Reynolds of Manor. Loy Hook-
er and D. L. Abercrombie went with
good time at Lufkin, Texas at the
Neches Valley Convention. Burl Car-
ter always has a big one. They will
give you a more detailed report about
it.
Friends, it is later than you think.
We have never seen as much indif-
ference as we have in the world right
now. People are indifferent toward
each other, indifferent toward God,
indifferent toward gospel singing, etc.
It is time to stop and think, and past
time to get on our knees. I believe
in prayer. We ask that you remember
us in your prayers. We have never
needed the Gospel more than we need
it now. Let's do something about this
situation.
Again I would like to say thanks a
million for everything that you,, our
friends, are turning our way. We ap-
preciate you more than we can ever
tell you. We will appreciate you let-
ting us fill your every gospel song
need.

Rev. Albert Ott
Resigns
Rev Albert Ott resigned as Pastor
of Beautiful Bethel Temple last
month after twenty-five years of
faithful and devoted service to God
and to the ever increasing member-
ship of Bethel Temple. He has been
in failing health for several years.
It has been our happy privilege to
be closely connected with Bro. Ott
and his congregation for some twenty
years. We feel we have never had
better friends than Rev. and Mrs.
Ott. They have been very kind to us
and have helped us many times.
We read an article written by Mrs.
Ott titled, “The Albert Ott I Know."
She expresses his life so completely
(and who could better do this than
she) that we feel impressed to pass
it on to you.
“When just a lad of twelve, Albert
Ott surrendered his heart and life to
the Lord Jesus Christ. He said one
Eternal Yes to His Will. It is not
always easy to carry out a complete
consecration since we do not know
what is ahead.
“A few years after conversion God
laid his hand upon this young lad
and called him into His vineyard.
Little did he know what that call
really meant.
“After several years of working
and taking unto himself a wife and
the responsibility of raising two
daughters, just at the time when he
seemed most successful as a business
man, God spoke again. Thm time the
call was very forceful and it seemed
it was now or never.
“At this time Albert Ott vowed a
vow that he would go. Immediately
he started out he knew not where.
That call has never been lifted and
the words, ‘I have vowed a vow and
I can not turn back,' is very real in
his life.
“Since I am his wife, I am in a
position to know more than any one
else the burden and the struggle in
his heart and life the past six years
since health began to fail. Only God
knows how hard it is at times and
yet he has a burning desire to do
something more for God. Win a few
more souls, encourage a few more
along life's pathway.
“Until God says, ‘Son, you can rest
now, your work day is over,' he will
have to keep doing his best.
“He loves people and he loves you,
the members and friends of Bethel
Temple, very much."
Our prayer is that God in His in-
finite mercy will spare Bro. Ott.
Though he has retired from active
ministry there is always much any
servant of God can do, and knowing
Bro Ott we know that as long as he
is with us the urge to do something
for Christ and His work will ever re-
main.
