Newly-Elected
City Officals
Refuse to Serve
EASTVILLK. Va. (UPl.—The
newly-elected officials of East-
ville are refusing to take office.
And the courts may have to
take a hand.
Of Eastville’s 110 eligible vot-
ers. 24 went to the polls on June
12th. When the results were in.
the mayor and his councilman
were out. The winners: Their
wives.
It seems the voters had staged
a write-in rebellion of sorts,
marking the names of the ladies
rather than their husbands.
But. the women say they won’t
serve. They »ay tlie whole thing
was a nasty practical joke.
The Circuit Court of Appeals
will have to decide who governs
Eastville — unless the ladies
change their minds and take
over from their husbands, who
were written out.

two other airlines, October 1,
1956—the railroad negotiated
