SHS' Alvidrez Tops
Division at Region I
Powerlifting Meet
SUNDOWN - Seminole
sophomore Andrew Alvidrez
earned a return trip back to the
Taylor County Expo Center
in Abilene in two weeks, after
winning first place within the
148 lbs weight class at the
Texas High School Powerlifting
Association's Region I, Div. II
Powerlifting meet, held this
past Friday at Sundown High
School.
Fellow SHS teammate, senior
Dalton Driver, who finished third
within the 198 lbs weight class,
will also be attending the state
meet as an alternate behind
Vernon's Orlando Hayman and
Midland Greenwood's Dustin
Rea.
Alvidrez, who finished second
at the THSPA's 2012 State
completition in the 132 lbs
division, finished with a total lift
of 1,160 lbs, which included a
dead lift of 450 lbs.
He will be joined from his
weight class at the state meet
by Sweetwater's Donald Baker,
who finished with a total lift of
1,085 lbs.
Driver, finished with a 1,200
lbs total lift, with a 470 lbs squat
lift in the competition.
As a team, the Indians finished
seventh overall with 12 team
points on the day. District 2-3A
rival Lubbock Cooper took top
team honors with 41 points,
including four first place and one
second place finish.

Maiden Golfers Place 14th
at Andrews Girls Classic

Froese carded the lone sub-200
two-day total for the Maiden varsity
golf team this past weekend, as they
took part in the 2013 Andrews Girls
Golf Classic, held at the Andrews
County Golf Course.
Froese finished with a two-day
score of 189, which included
rounds of 91 and 98 on Friday and
Saturday respectively, to the lead
the Maidens to a 14th place finish
in the 17 team field. Seminole, as a
team, finished with a two-day score
of 813.
Host Andrews took top team
honors with a two-day team total
of 643, led by Sarah Black's 147
(76-71).

Baseball is currently underway,
according to local league organizers.
Player fonns can be picked up
at Brown's Ace Hardware, located
at 119 E. Ave. A, and Guy Chaney
State Fann, located at 400 S. Main
St.
The league is open to anyone
between the ages of 13 and 18 years
of age, as of May 1,2013.
Registration deadline is set for
April 5, at 5 pin., as fonns need
to be returned to either pick-up
location.
League try-outs will be held April
6, from 10 am. until 12-noon, at
Robert Ryan Field, for all those who
have signed up.
The tryout is not manditory, but
strongly recommended for all those
who are playing.
All players who register will be
drafted.
