SKYWARN. The National Weather Service Office in Fort Worth held a SKYWARN
severe weather program on Tuesday, January 15 at the DeLeon Volunteer Fire
Department, in partnership with Comanche County Emergency Management.The
Comanche County severe weather program was one of over 60 training sessions that
the Fort Worth NWS Office will conduct between January and March. Dozens firefight-
ers, emergency personnel, and citizens from Comanche and adjoining counties
attended the training.
ALL SHOOK UP. In one of the more popular portions of the show, Elvis picked a
group of men to dance while he sang “Jailhouse Rock.” Pictured above are DeLeon
Elementary Principal Judd Gibson, cutting a rug, along with Billy McGrath, Tim Beaty,
and Charles Beck.
SWARMING DEFENSE. The Lady Cubcats’ B team used their swarming defense to
hold the Meridian B team to just 11 points Thursday, earning a 9-point victory.

Teams Battle
Meridian and Hico

Middle School Coach
The DeLeon junior high
girls basketball teams faced
Meridian and Hico at home on
Thursday, Jan. 17, and Monday,
Jan. 21.
The B team finished their
season by defeating Meridian
20-11 but falling to Hico 9-5. In
the Meridian game, Cecilia
Mejia scored 10 points fol-
lowed by Krissy Hunt-Skaggs
and Nia Madden with four and
Betty Riffe with two points.
Against Hico, scoring was
tough as Cecilia Mejia led with
four points and Krissy Hunt-
Skaggs with one point. The B
team record was 5-1 on the
year.
The seventh grade defeat-
ed Meridian 31-15 behind
Alyssa Mahan's 11 points.
Kaylyn Hooker also had a good
night with 10 points. Sophie
Gilmore added four points as
Clarissa Landa, Lexie Krause
and Natalie Alvarado chipped
in two each. The girls ran into a
stellar performance from Hico's
point guard on Monday night,
playing hard but falling 38-21.
Alyssa Mahan again led scorers
with 13 points followed by
Kaylyn Hooker with six and
Sophie Gilmore with two
points. Their record stands at 7-
2 on the year (both losses to
Hico). On Saturday, Jan. 26 the
seventh grade will host a tour-
nament starting at 9 a.m. with a
game against Ranger. Baird and
Santo are the other two teams in
the tourney.
The eighth grade fell to
Meridian 34-31 and then to
Hico 34-22. Against Meridian,
Ebony Gonzales scored nine
points followed by Whitney
Beach with seven, Patricia
Orozco with six, and Marley Patricia Orozco had four, while
Sides with four. McKenzie Marley Sides had three points.
Morris added three points and Taylor Welch and Bailey
Bailey Whiteley two points. Whiteley added two points
Against Hico, Gonzales again each. The eighth grade record
led the scoring with 11 points, fell to 5-7 for the year.
SWAT. Kaylyn Hooker of the seventh grade Lady
Cubcats denies a Meridian shooter during Thursday’s
middle school game.
