Stelzel named Advisor
of the Year by Balfour
Balfour Publishing in
Dallas has announced that
retired East Bernard High
School teacher Brenda Stelzel
has been selected by Balfour
Publishing as the National
2014 Adviser of the Year.
Stelzel was nominated for
this award by the Balfour
Houston office and was cho-
sen by a team of Balfour re-
gional vice-presidents from
across the U.S.
She and her staff were
consistent winners in UIL
and journalism competitions
throughout her 37-year teach-
ing career at East Bernard
High School. As a yearbook
and newspaper adviser, she
was a judge for numerous
journalism competitions and
won several individual state
awards, including the UIL
Denius Award and the Edith
Fox King Award.
Stelzel was recognized for
her contributions to the field
of journalism, her influence on
her students, many of whom
have careers in the field to-
day, and her dedication to her
school, her students and the
publications she advised.
She and her husband, Da-
vid, enjoyed a four-day trip to
Las Vegas where they joined
Balfour representatives from
across the states for their
national conference. Brenda
was recognized at the Awards
Ceremony and was presented
a Tiffany & Company crystal
apple from her friends at Bal-
four Publishing.
