Fehler transferred from the Clifton
location, rising through the ranks
with NBC, Boise-Cascade, and
Lowe’s. During his tenure, he .has
made stops at Mineola, Kingsville,
San Marcus (twice), New Braunfels,
Midland, and Shiner.
He left Lowe’s of Shiner to return
to Clifton with his family, and hired
on at Rafter D in June 1993. Fehler
ended that association this past
weekend.
“I’m very excited about starting a
new business in my hometown,” Fe-
hler told The Record.
“I’m looking forward to serving the
needs of Clifton and Bosque County
in the building materials market,” he
said.
Groundbreaking ceremonies were
held Monday, Nov. 28, in The Ar-
mory at Clifton City Park. The cer-
emony was moved inside due to
continued rainy weather. Fehler said
some work had begun at the site by
Tuesday morning.
Mike Ratliff, owner of Clifton Con-
struction Co., is serving as the gen-
eral contractor in the construction of
the new facility.
The center will carry full lines of
lumber, building materials, tools,
hardware, paint, electrical, plumbing,
and more, Fehler noted.
Fehler said he is grateful for the,
support he has received from'family
and friends while putting this project
together. He especially thanked his
parents, Charles and Regina Fehler,
of Clifton, for their “confidence and
encouragement.”
Fehler also issued thanks to Van-
essa Galvan, whom he said spent
“hour and hours on the business plan
and paperwork.”
He also expressed gratitude for the
support of his wife, Kristye, and his
children; Karie Fehler, 19, a Texas
A8tM University sophomore, and
Nathan Fehler, 17, a Clifton High
School senior.

“The BCEDC is not connected with
the Small Business Resource Center.
That is a county-managed project,”
explained Baucom.
With the two entities linked by the
contract, a more efficient plan can be
implemented, Baucom told the court.
Areas targeted include “jnarketing,
training ambassadors, business re-
cruitment, trade shows, and recruit-
ing inside the state and out,” Baucom
said.
“It looks to me like we’re paying
you a county salary to run the
BCEDC. We’re paying you to do the
BCEDC’s job for their investors,” said
Judge Conrad.

half of the county.
“Part of the situation is that the
BCEDC is a 501(c) 3 corporation,
which lets businesses make tax-de-
ductible contributions," said Precinct
3 Commissioner Calvin Rueter.
“It’s a lot easier to fund a nonprofit
organization with contributions than
a county government,” added Bau-
com. . %
Conrad also expressed concern
about tourism development clauses
in the contract, asking that they be
stricken from the document. He
noted that the Bosque County Tour-
ism Council, Inc., is heading up tour-
ism development in the county, and
felt that the job should be left to the
council.
‘'Let the Tourism Council handle
that, and you aid them in any way
you can,” Conrad directed Baucom.
The court approved the contract
pending several changes, corrections,
and additions.
