Running Events To Kick -
Off First Freedom Fest
CLIFTON-'
Ft* will kick off with an early
morning 5-K (3.1 mika) Freedom Run
Runners will begin near the en
trance gate of Cub Stadium, travel the
road toward the gaaabo and tennis
courts, cross the park bridge near the
National Guard Armory and exit the
park, turn right and proceed up River
side Drive to the intersection of State
Highway 6 (near First National
Bank), turn left onto Highway 6 and
proceed nearly to the intersection of
Highway 219.
Prior to reaching this intersection,
the runners will cut acroai the Picture
That parking lot to the left and enter
Highway 219, traveling in front of Al-
brecht's Pharmacy.
Runners then turn right on Avenue
F and travel three blocks (to 11th
Street), where they will turn left, trav-
el two more blocks, hit Avenue D, and
turn left toward the downtown area,
the home stretch.
To conclude the Freedom Run, run-
ners will travel Avenue D (bur blocka,
with the finish line being across the
road in front of Winn’s and Radio
Shack. Runners may than walk back
to the park.
This aanctionad run is expected to
start around 8 a.m. There will be a
registration fee of 110 par runner pri-
or to the day of the race and $12 the
day of the race. Entry blanks are
available at the Chamber office
A one-mile Fun Run is also being
planned.
The Fun Run route will start at the
same place aa the Freedom Run, but
will instead meander throughout
Riverside Park.
Markers will be placed designating
both routes, and volunteers trill help
control traffic.
According to coordinator Margie
Martin, persons wishing to spectate
the Freedom Run on Highway 6 are
asked to park their cars on the west
side. If they are interested in being
present at the finish line, parking
should occur around City Hall.
Officials point out that persons
wanting to receive an official T-shirt
but not wanting to actually run, may
obtain one by registering and paying
the fee.
Parachute Jump Planned
CLIFTON - John Naputi, U S.
Army Special Forces (ret.), will per-
form a sky diva over Clifton and land
(he hopes) in Cub Stadium, as a ape
cial Freedom Peat attraction this
Saturday.
The diver is scheduled to land in the
stadium at 1 p.m.
Naputi, who works for the U.S.
Postal Service, has jumped with
numerous parachute teams and in
over 50 countries. He holds an expert
license, pro rating, and has been a pri-
vate pilot for 28 years, logging over
3,600 hours.
He was the 32nd parson in the world
to accumulate 5,000 free fella and the
26th to collect 60 hours accumulated
time in free fall. Ha presently has
made 5,889 free fall jumps and 532
static line jumpe.
Naputi’s highest jump was 32,000
feet, while in the U.S. Army Special
Forces (Green Beret). He operates a
sky diving school in Gateeville.
Naputi and wife, Cathy, have a
2W-year-old daughter and an current-
ly expecting another child.

CLIFTON — From the gazebo stage,
radio personality Don Harris will em-
cee several performers throughout the
day June 29, as the first-ever Freedom
Fest commences, according to this
schedule:
• 10 a.m.—Clifton Gospel Quartet.
• 11 a m —Patriotic music concert,
49th, Armored Division Band, Austin
(these band members’ lunch spon-
sored by Thrift Mart/IGA and pre-
pared by the Central Texas Fair
Association).
This performance ia dedicated to all
military personnel and any present
will be recognized.
CLIFTON - A variety of refresh-
ments and fooda will b« available in
the park during Freedom Feet, includ-
ing theae:
• Rotary Club—hot doga/hot link*.
9 Pizza Junction—pizza by the

• Hoffman’s Meat Market-
barbecue and fiyitas.

• Central Texas Fair
Association—hamburgers.
Softball Tourney Saturday
CLIFTON — A double-elimination ney’a coordinator, the tournament
softball tournament will commence will feature CAD claae teams, 15 play
beginning at 8 a.m. on the diamond era per team maximum, and Blue Dot
adjacent to Cub Stadium in Riverside balls.
Park. Entry fee ia $80 per team.
According to Jim Bolinger, the tour- Teams must submit their rosters
prior to the first game.
The first-place team will be award-
ed a trophy, while individual T-shirts
will go to first, second, and third
places.
