Zion U.C.C. Women’s
Guild Meets March 4
WOMACK - Zion U.C.C.
Women's Guild of Womack met
on Tuesday, March 4, at which
Mrs. Earl Rosamond presented
the topic “Wearing the Fabric of
Faith,” placing the emphasis on
“the pattern of God in the Far
Country.”
Mrs. Calvin Rueter, president,
was in charge of the business
meeing.
Plans were made to visit Eden
Home in New Braunfels on
April 12.
May 13 is the date set for the
NTA Women’s Divsion Spring
Meeting, which will be held at
the campsite “The Master’s
Workshop” which is near Waco.
Some local women will attend.
Mrs. Calvert Hoel and Mrs.
Marshall Williams were put on
the nominating committee.
T The meeting was closed with
a meditation of the least coin
which, was read by Velma
Kleine.
Refreshments were served
during the social hour by Mrs.
Velma Kleine and Mrs. Vannie
Spenrath.

Clifton Students Take Top
Honors At Literary Meet
ROBINSON — Students from
Clifton Elementary and Junior
High returned home from a
March 8 U.I.L. Literary Meet in
Robinson with first place
trophies in each division and the
sweepstakes trophy for overall
team score.
The local students competed
against mostly larger schools,
including China Spring,
Groesbeck, Rosebud-Lott, La
Vega, Lakeview, Temple-
Travis, Robinson, West, and
Moody.
Clifton's elementary division
scored 80 points with the its
closest competition coming from
Robinson with 50 points.
The point spread was closer
for the middle school, with Clif-
ton scoring 87 points for first
place and Robinson following
with 80.
The fifth grade picture
memory team, consisting of
Noel Kersh, Amy Shults,
Latoyya Hall, Misty Massey,
and Kera Finstad, won first
place and obtained the highest
score ever made by such a team
at a Robinson meet.
Second place was won by the
fourth grade picture memory
team, consisting of Gloria Vega,
Clay Kennedy, Josh Golden,
Christal West, Amy Whitney,
and Cassie Drake.
Eight Clifton students will
receive certificates fromt the
state U.I.L. office for entering
perfect papers in the contest.
They are: Mark Huffman, 5th
grade spelling; Crissy Anz, 5th
grade spelling; Misty Massey,
Amy Shults, Noel Kersh, and
Latoyya Hall, all of the 5th
grade picture memory team;
and Josh Golden and Gloria
Vega, both of the 4th grade pic-
ture memory team.
In addition to the picture
memory teams, other awards
won by Clifton elementary
students include: Mark Huff-
man, 1st place — 5th grade
spelling; Crissy Anz, 2nd place
— 5th grade spelling; Pepper
Nix, 3rd place — 3rd grade
storytelling; Cara Kennedy, 4th
place — 2nd grade storytelling;
Betsy Spitzer, 1st place — 3rd
grade storytelling; and Joanna
Crow, 6th place — 2nd grade
storytelling.
In the middle school division,
awards were captured bv An-
drew Dahl, 3rd place — 7th
grade poetry’; Jason Fossett, 3rd
place — 6th grade number
sense; J. J. Fernandez, 6th place
— 6th grade number sense;
Blair Stroud, 1st place - 2nd
grade poetry’.
Also placing were Jason
Whitney, 4th place — 8th grade
poetry and 5th place - 8th
grade number sense; Brent Fin-
ney, 6th place — 7th grade
number sense; Alex Montes, 4th
place — 7th grade number
sense; Denise Fields, 2nd place
— 7th grade prose; and Barbi
Spitzer, 4th place — 7th grade
spelling and 5th place — 7th
grade number sense.
Finishing up the list of ribbon
winners are Cybil Morton, 3rd
place — 8th grade poetry; Misty
Hutson. 2nd place — 7th grade
poetry; Lome Grumbine, 3rd
place — 8th grade prose; and
Melanie Martin. 1st place — 7th
grade poetry.
