MEMORIAL FLAG PROGRAM - Dennis, Pam, Tiffany and Chance Moore Rank a plaque in
memory of Stuart Moore dedicated during a Memorial Flag Program ceremony Friday morning
at Livingston City Hall. The plaque, installed on the wall of city hall, notes that it is in memory
of Moore, who was killed on Dec. 22, 2993 while serving in the military in Baghdad, and is

Women gain in 'man's sport'
from page 1
“Cancer has affected so many of
us,” said Babb, adding that she
hopes to gain sponsors from
cosmetic, pharmaceutical and
clothing line companies.
By becoming a professional
fisherman, Babb wants to prove that
women can make a career as an
angler.
“But I am not going to quit what
I’ve been doing here [in business
and civic projects]. This will be my
home base,” she said. “The projects
I have started are important to me.”
To participate in both the WBFA
and the BASS tours, Babb will be
traveling extensively. Between the
two tours, there are I0 annual
events and Babb plans to compete
in fishing classics and
championships for other tours, too.
According to Babb, one of the
best boons from her recent victory
with the WBFA is the recognition
she now gets from the community.
“It makes me smile each time
someone says something to me
about it,” she said.
Another thing that makes her
happy is being asked to share
fishing tips.
"I’ve noticed a greater amount of
people asking me for tips,” Babb
said. “It’s great - people listening
to a woman on what has been
perceived as a man’s sport.”

Seeing this was a much wel-
comed gift of necessity, the Moores
asked the Livingston-Polk County
Chamber of Commerce to assist
them in continuing their efforts to
all soldiers deployed in the War on
Terrorism.
“This was quickly organized and
received by our community very
well,” Pam Moore said. “Individu-
als and companies have donated
their time, the items and money to
make this project a true testimony
of Polk County.
“As the public’s awareness of the
war in Iraq and Afghanistan seems
to take the back burner in the minds
of the public and the media, it is
obvious our community does not,”
Moore said. “To date, our commu-
nity has mailed care packages to
264 soldiers.”
Moore shared some interesting
facts about the care packages. The
total weight of the 264 care pack-
ages sent exceeds 2,380 pounds and
the total shipping costs have been
S3,167.44.
“The number of lives our com-
munity has touched is immeasur-
able,” Moore said, adding that as of
this week, Operation Care has re-
ceived $4,035 in monetary dona-
tions, not including what the cham-
ber itself has donated.
Moore expressed her apprecia-
tion to the chamber, which has pro-
vided the storing area, packing
room and accounting for the ongo-
ing project.
Operation Care has recently re-
vised its flyer to reflect the I0 cur-
rent drop locations and the list of
items needed.
Current drop locations include:
Alabama-Coushatta Indian Reser-
vation Cultural Center, Ameren
Legion Post #312, Livingston-Polk
County Chamber of Commerce,
Escapees RV Club, Escapees Care
Center, HEB Pantry Foods, Polk
County Courthouse, Sam Houston
Electric Cooperative, Polk County
Sub-Courthouse in Onalaska and
VFW Post #8568.
Items needed for the care pack-
ages include: dental floss, chips,
cookies, instant soups, microwave-
able popcorn, beef jerky, little
boxes of cereal, cracker jacks, pea-
nuts, playing cards and chewing
gum.
Parents of people serving in the
military are encouraged to stop by
the chamber office and fill out a
soldier package request form to be
mailed to their child, relative,
neighbor or friend.
People are also encouraged to

items in the drop boxes or deposit
money in our local banks to cover
the postage. Accounts have been
established at First National Bank

"Wouldn’t it be a real wave of
support if everyone who has a me-
tallic ribbon on their vehicle took
just one more step and donated to
