cott seeks GISD Position 4
GOODRICH Ken Scott has
f led as a candidate for Position 4
c i the Board of Trustees of the
( oodrich Independent School Dis-
t let in the upcoming May 13 etec-
t in.
“I have lived in Holiday Lake Ls-
t tes for more than 20 years with
r y wife Kayla. We have raised
ftve children, all who have attended
the Goodrich Independent School
System. My youngest son. Dewey,
graduated in 2003 and was valedic-
torian of his, class and attended
Ijexas A&M University for two
years,” Scott said "My daughter,
Patricia, graduated in 2004 and
attends East Texas Baptist Univer-
sity in Marshall.
“While working with Dewey and
Patricia’s college acceptance,
scholarships and entrance we die
covered some problems that I
vyould like to see bettered by our
school for future generations of
graduates of GISD,
j “Our youth already have a bit of
a curriculum disadvantage coming
fpom a very small campus, espc
cially when going on to a larger
university. We have encountered
f roblems receiving scholarship and
{rant monies through the school in
i timely fashion, so I would like to

students’ future. Also lacking was a
knowledgeable person to guide
^tjiem through thi decisions "t(T be
jpade for that future The same per-
son could do this very valuable
process with our youth To my
knowledge, this situation lemains
the same and needs to be acted
upon.
“I have always believed that all
students should receive the* best
possible education arid guidance
throughout their scholastic careei
with the goal of bein ' picp . d tin
life, if not furtltet cdiic.ilion. Scott
said.
“It has always been my thought

“I have always had a personal in-
terest in the young people and try
to support their needs in whatever
way I can; front the simple ride to
school when a bus is missed to
standing behind one who needs
adult leadership in time of distress.
Our y<5uth need to know that they
are valued, that hard work and
dedication to their studies will be
acknowledged and rewarded. They
also need to know that life holds
consequences for wrong behavior
or when they do not do what is
expected of them. This is all prepa-
ration for what adult life is all
about equal and just treatment for
all. Our young people today are our
future leaders tomorrow. We as a
community need to come together
to help mold and develop them for
this task.
"I feel strongly that when a par-
ent has a concern with school mal-
lei s they should be made to feel
welcome to voice their opinion at a
school board meeting. All guests
and speakers should be given the
tunc, courtesy and respect that they
deserve. I would like to see the
community become more involved
in school matters. including
monthly board meetings," Scott
said.
"I believe that our resources
should be used wisely Only the
most qualified teaelieis and person
neI should be hired tor the job. Be-
cause these jobs are supported by
community tav dollars, all persons
in positions in our school should he
accountable to the community for
any and all actions taken Fvcu
though oui school board is an un-
paid position. I feel this also holds
true for these members..

w here getting work done in a
timely fashion is essential. I am a
former member of the Holiday
Lakes Estates Civic Club and
served in various positions for six
years because of my ongoing inter-
est in the security and quality of
life in our subdivision.
"I am a member of Drews Land-
ing Church and I enjoy participat-
ing in a variety of volunteer activi-
ties in Polk County; that includes
singing at area nursing homes and
visiting with the residents, helping
those in need of a ride to a doctor
appointment or a trip to the grocery
store or even something as simple
as a phone call to someone who is
lonely.
"Finally, I feel blessed that God
has given me the family and life
experiences that I have,” Scott said.
“I would like to use these to further
serve my community and represent
each of you and our children by
serving as your representative on
the GISD school board.”
