for Rohne (31 percent). Comanche
County gave Morgan 1,871 votes (80
percent) to 476 votes for Rohne (20
percent). In all, 6,267 persons in the
three counties voted in this race.
Bosque County polled 2,750 votes.
Comanche County 2,347 votes, and
Hamilton County 1,170 votes.
Sandra Woosley defeated
incumbent District Clerk Diana
Wellborn, 53 percent to 47 percent,
in the Democratic Party primary.
Woosley polled 1,485 votes, while
Wellborn collected 1,336 votes. In all,
2,821 Bosque Countians voted in this
race.
A runoff election will be staged in
the Democratic Party race for
nomination for County
Commissioner, Precinct 2. The top
two contenders in this three-man
race were Earl D. Royal, 364 votes,
and David H-. Jones, 307 votes. Close
behind but edged out of the runoff is
Rory G. Carrol, who received 224
votes.
In the Justioe of the Peace, Pet. 1
race, incumbent Democrat Bennett
Morrow received the nomination by
polling 902 votes over challenger
Clark Vandergriff, who received 499
votes.
Gamering nominations in the
Democratic Party primary, but
running unopposed were: Patsy
Owen Mize, County Clerk, 2,439
votes; Randy Outlaw Pullin, County
Treasurer, 2,387 votes; Carl Smith,
Jr., County Commissioner, Pet. 4,
732 votes; and Alvin James, Justice
of the Peace, Pet. 2,-1,108 votes.
The Republican Party had no local
candidates.
Statewide Races
In the U.S. Senate race, Democrats
statewide gave Jim Mattox 417,218
votes (40.5 percent), followed by
Richard Fisher, 387,445 votes (37.7
percent); Mike Andrews, 160,997
votes (15.6 percent); and Evelyn
Lantz 63,343 votes (6.2 percent).
Mattox and Fisher will be in a runoff
election.
Bosque County voters favored
Fisher with 1,427 votes, followed by
Mattox, 886 votes; Andrews, 244
votes; and Lantz, 142 votes.
Republicansstatewide and at home
preferred Kay Bailey Hutchison by a
wide margin. Statewide, she polled
466,820 votes (84.1 percent), and was
followed by Stephen Hopkins, 34,594
votes (6.2 percent), James C. Currey,
16,578 votes (3.0 percent); Roger
Henson, 14,053 votes (2.5 percent);
Ernest Scmidt, 8,659 votes (1.6
percent); Troy Mata, 8,618 votes (1.6
percent); and Tom Spink, 5,682 votes
(1.0 percent).
Bosque County Republicans gave
Hutchison 233 votes; Hopkins, 20;

In the Governor’s race, Democrats
favored incumbent Ann Richards
with 77.8 percent of the vote
statewide, over Gary Espinoza who
received 22.2 percent. Richards polled
805,030 votes, while Espinoza
received 229,943 votes.
Bosque County Democrats also
favored Richards, 2,114 votes to 565
for Espinoza.
Republicans statewide nominated
George W. Bush, who received 93.3
percent of the state’s votes over Ray
Hollis, who polled 6.7 percent. Bush
received 518,187 votes, to 37,156 for
Hollis.
In Bosque County, Republicans
gave Bush 265 votes, to 12 for Hollis.
For Attorney General, Dan
Morales ran unopposed in the
Democratic Primary. The
Republicans, however, had four
candidates, with Pat Lykos and Don
Whittig headed for a runoff. Other
candidates were John MarshaU and
Tony Garza.
Bosque County Republicans
favored Garza, with 80 votes, while
Marshall was in second with 78
votes. Whittig had 35 and Lykos had
40.
Local Democrats and Republicans
mirrored the sentiments of their
statewide counterparts in the
primary election for State Treasurer.
Martha Whitehead received the
Democratic Party nomination over
Grady Yarborough, while David
Hartman won the Republican Party
bid over Mike Wolfe.
Democrats winning nomination to
the Railroad Commission are Mary
S. Nabers (unexpired term) and Jim
Nugent (full term). Each will face
Republicanchallengersin November.
A runoff will be held in the Texas
Supreme Court, Place 1, Democratic
Party nomination race, featuring
Raul A. Gonzales and Rene Haas.
Winning the Republican Party
nomination was Oliver Kitzman over
Clifton native George Busch.
In Place 2, Alice Oliver Parrott
won the Democratic Party
nomination, while Republican
Nathan Hecht won that party's
nomination.
In Place 3, Jimmy Carroll won
Democratic Party nomination.
On the Texas Court of Criminal
Appeals, Mike McCormick won the
Democratic Party nomination for
Presiding Judge. In Place 1, the
Democrat was unopposed, but Steve
Mansfield won the Republican Party
nomination.
Place 2 will feature runoffs in both
parties. Democrats will see Betty
Marshall and Gene Kelly battling it
out, while Republicans will vote on
either Sam Bay less or Sharon Keller.

boxes in this issue of the newspaper.
