Remarks
By Marc Johnson
Hooooeeeey! And how y’all now
lookin’ after these fine rain show-
ers? I know the
weeds in my
front yard doin’
good. Hope this
will help all our
farmers and
ranchers. Some
of ’em mebbe
even caught a bit
of stock water.
Writin’ this on the evenin’ of the
13th and just got home from our
annual Gap Community Chamber
of Commerce supper. Main item of
bidness was to eat; welcome new-
comers to the community; and elect
officers fer the cornin’ year.
And the winners of the offices
are: Larry Kinney will be the new
president and Bob Crabtree will be
the new vice-president; Karen
Bentsen will be the new secretary
and Gerald Nelson the treasurer.
New directors are Wade Lee, Gene
Lee, and Tom Martin. And I hope
all us citizens of the Gap commu-
nity will support them as they take
over the reins of the Chamber fer
the cornin’ year.
New-comers welcomed were Jim
Bayless, Troy and Terry Carnley,
Cheryl Daniels, Jimmy and Sherry
Johnson, and Randall Redder.
Bunch more was invited but, fer
some reason, couldn't make it. Any-
how, welcome y’all. Hope I didn’t
fergit nobody.
Shorely we can git to well over a
100 members fer this cornin’ year.
Had only 84 this past year. But I
reckon that ain’t too bad. Rick Dou-
glas, president of the Greater Dal-
las Chamber of Commerce, said
that percentage wise, we done a
bunch better than Dallas. He just
happens to own the old Bakke place
between here and Clifton and gits
down mainly on the weekends. With
all y’all lookin' fer friends and
neighbors to join up; it can happen.
Shouldn’t take no too great amount
of effort from nobody.
Listen to this. Just one of the up-
comin’ things to participate in here
in a small town where some folks
say there ain’t nothin’ to do. Well,
you ain’t lookin’ or payin' attention.
The fourth annual Gap Youth
Support Group and fourth fajita
supper and auction cornin’ up here
purty soon. Gonna be June 10 down
to the Community Center. Start
eatin’ bout 6 p.m., and the auction
gonna be at about 6:45 p.m. This be
one of the free-will donation events,
but we hope you'll at least kick in
five or she bucks a head.
This is to gather up some bucks
to carry down to the Central Texas
Youth Fair in Clifton fer the sale.
Benefits Gap and Bosque County
kids. Got about 20 kids what gonna
have animals at the fair this year
Great!
Got something layin' around
you'd like to donate fer the auction9
Drop it off down to Gap Tractor
Parts, or contact Barry Finstad at
597-2451, or Sandi Carlson at 597
2574, or Kathie Witte at 597-2740, or
Kathy Ybarra at 597-0336. They'll
fill you in on all the info you want to
know. Come on out; we’ll all have a
fine time and fer a good cause, the
youth of the Gap. and Bosque
County.
Easter sunrise services gonna be
down to the Old Rock Church at 7
a m. on Sunday, the 23rd And then
at 8 a m., breakfast will be served
up at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in
the basement. Put on by the youth
of the church and will be another of
these fre 3-will donation things
Gonna lay out scrambled eggs, sau
sage, bacon, homemade biscuits,
and gn'-v All us fat boys like them
biscu nd gravy. Probably ain’t
supposed to have 'em, but love’em
anyhow. Got to splurge every once
in a while. Monies raised will ben
efit this youth group Y’all come and
then you'd be welcomed upstairs
fer the Easter service at 9:30 a m.
4 H meetings held every last
Wednesday of the month down to
the Community Center at 6 p m
Y'all need more information about
this group, call Kathie Witte at 597
2740 Understand they got about 20
kids so far in this fine organization
I've bout had it on the TV about
this “Elain" kid I really feel like
he's the victim in this deal Send
him home with his Daddy, and let
him git on with his life. Git the
guvimmt flat out from it. So what if
life in Cuba ain't quite as great as it
is here in the USA1 The kid will ad-
just.
So much to write and so little
space; so I II just close by askin' that
all us keep them what be sick and
or hurtin’ in any way in our
thoughts and prayers And keep
smilin’; make 'em wonder what you
been up to
See ya next week.

Corriente Assn.
KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Larry and
Anthony Anderson of Clifton have
recently become active members in
the North American Corriente As-
sociation. They are interested in
team roping and producing quality
sport cattle for the area.
True Corriente cattle are a dis-
tinct breed, tracing their ancestry
to the original cattle brought by the
Spaniards to the West Indies and
the Americas in the 16th century.
It is a small, fast, agile, athletic ani-
mal with stamina, heavy horns, and
a gentle disposition, making it ideal
for team roping, bulldogging, team
penning, and cutting.
The North American Corriente
Association was founded in 1984.
Today, it has members in 40 states,
three provinces in Canada, Mexico,
and Australia. The Association an-
nually registers well over 3,000
Corriente calves destined for
breeding stock. Members also mar-
ket thousands of team roping and
bulldogging steers annually.

sociation, write NACA, PO. Box
