The Railroad Commiuion has
been working on improving pipe-
line safety standards. On Tuesday,
the commiuion unanimously ap-
proved adding requirements for natu-
ral gas operators to file reports »
girding the installation and/or re-
moval of plastic pipe. The com-
mission's action is baaed upon two
factors: a commission investigation
into the use of plastic pipe tad a
recommendation made by the Na-
tional Transportation Safety Bored
regarding the lack of information on
plastic pipe installations.
Operators will now have to fik
three reports to the commiuion.
The three reports will consist of an
annual plastic pipe failure report,
plastic pipe installation and/or re-
moval report, md a list of plastic
pipe installed within each system
by the dele of installation. The
Railroad Commission is suthonud
to adopt rules relating to safety
standards for the transportation of
natural gas md to require reood i
maintenance and reports.
"Ths Railroad Commiuion is
committed to the safety of all Tex-
ans,” stated Matthews "I believe
actions such u this will only con-
tinue our efforts toward grata
pipeline safety."
