AUSTIN, Texas — An awarding of a bid for the
conservation of the Christinas Mountains has been
delayed for 90 days.
The School Land Board voted last week to give
the National Park Service time to pitch its own land
management plan.
“The board may still vote to sell to a conserva-
tion buyer, but it’s important to give the Park Ser-
vice a chance,’’said Jerry Patterson, Commissioner
of the Texas General Land Offide.
Two private conservation buyers that have quali-
fied for the bids agreed to give the public agency
an opportunity to evaluatedthe property

9,269-acre land located northwest of Big Bend.
The Park Service, however, forbids hunting on
