17th Annual Art Competition
Open House Slated Sunday
CHS Receives Exemplary Rating
CLIFTON — Clifton Superintendent Marlene
Zlpperlen recently received a letter from the Itexas
Education Agency that notified the school district that
Clifton High School has been granted an Exemplary
Rating for 2002, following the reconfiguration of the
correct enrollment grades being incorporated into
the accountability results
The letter stated that “research indicates that a num
ber of students tested at Clifton High School had incor
red grade entries on their TAAS answer documents”
and that changing those entries results allowed CHS
to meet the standards for an Exemplaiy Rating.
CLIFTON — The Bosque Con-
servatory and the Art Council in
Clifton will host its 17th Annual
Art Competition, Exhibit, and Sale
with an opening night Preview
2002 at 7 p.m., on Saturday. Sept.
14, followed by an Open House
slated Sunday, from 2 to 4 p.m.
The judged and juried show will
include artists from all over the
nation, as well as artists from all
over the State of Texas. Some of
the out-of state artists that will
be on display include ones from
New York, Utah, Illinois, Colo-
rado, Oklahoma, Michigan, Mis
souri, California, Alabama, Iowa,

Chisholm Trail Display Opens At The Collection

i MERIDIAN — The Bosque
County Collection has recently
completed a hallway display area
1 that honors the Chisholm Trail,
I which once passed through
Bosque County near Meridian.
> Doug Stockton has been work-
. ing with The Collection for several
I months to build permanent dis-
play cases both upstairs and
downstairs in the historic Lump-
kin Building which now houses the
Collection The Chisholm TVail dis-
play is mounted both inside the
case and on the wall in the upstairs
hallway.
“The display interprets a por-
tion of Texas from Post Civil War
into the late 1880s,” said Stockton
“This was a significant period in
Texas history, when the cowboys
moved the feral longhorns across
Texas, through Oklahoma, and on
to Kansas "
“The period defined Texas, and
the cowboys,’ added Stockton.
“Hie period ended with the com-
ing of the railroads in the late
1880s”
The display has been put to-
gether in conjunction with the
Texas Memorial Museum in Aus-
tin.

a Colt 44 caliber Richards-Mason
Conversion Revolver, which had
