Wood Chip Blaze
Silsbee Volunteer Firemen
answered a 2:55 p.m. fire call
May 9 when a truck load of
wood chips caught fire. Fire
Chief Russell Busby said.
Driver of the Gillespie Tim-

while heading toward Evadale
on US 96 East, Busby said, and
stopped the truck in front of

GOP Primary
Has, Light Vote
County - wide interest in
Democratic candidates for State
and Commissioner posts was
probably responsible for a very
light turnout—13 voters—in the
Hardin CoUnt.v Republican Pri-
mary held here May 6.
County GOP Chairman
James Ortiz, of Pinewood, re-
elected to that post with no op-
position, said that guberna-
torial candidates Henry Grover
and Albert Fay would face a
June 3 runoff for the privilege
of meeting either Dolph Briscoe
or Mrs. Frances Farenthold in
November. In County returns,
Grover received six votes to
two for Fay. Dave Reagan got
five votes, while no votes were
cast for Tom McElrov, Joseph
A. Jenkins, or John Hall.
In the U. S. Representative
race for District 2, Charles
Brightwell received eight votes
to three for Maurice Elsburry.
Senator John Tower, unoppos-
ed, got all 13 County votes.
Likewise, Maurice Angly re-
ceived 13 votes in the GOP
State Treasurer race. He was
unopposed.
Republicans split 6-6 over n
referendum ori daylight savings
time, and approved 10*2 the
proposed anti-busing amend-
ment.
GOP County Convention will
be held at 7 p, m., May 13, at
Kountze, Ortiz said.
