Triple digits! Yep, that’s what the
temp been fer the last several
days. Hotter’n a
road lizard.
Wouldn’t seem
near so hot if’n
they’d just quit
mentionin’ that
d a d - b u r n
thermiditity in-
dex. Now, would
it? But, it’s Au-
gust, and we hear rat in the heart
of Texas, so reckon it’s like it
s’posed to be. We see it year after
year, and still complain. What’s
different? Nothin.’
Visited with Superintendent
Henry Lind this afternoon, the
2lst, and he said enrollment up
here to the Gap School is the low-
est it’s probably ever been. Only
got 97 young’uns signed up in
grades K through 12. Me and Bet
is too old to start addin’ to the
population so it’s gonna be up to
some of the younger folks to take
on this task.
Supt. Lind told all us what was
at the last Community Chamber
meetin’ that he is the project coor-
dination manager fer the new
multi-purpose buildin’ takin’ shape
up on the hill. His takin’ on this
task will save us taxpayers many
a dollar. And I reckon we oughtta
thank him fer doin’ it. The build-
ing will be completely paid fer
when finished. No increase in our
taxes, and no goin’ into debt fer
gettin’ it built. Sounds lak a good
deal to me. I’m anxious to see ’er
done. Completion date s’posed to
be either late October or early
November, just in time fer the
Lutefisl ’upper. This’ll be a fine
way to show off this new facility.
Mr. Flory is the theatre arts in-
structor, and he’s shore ’nough
excited! Gonna have a stage fer
the kids to perform on what had
built-in lights and sound. He ain’t
never had such as that before, and
he’s big ready.
Well, Bet is a little bit happier
with her Cowboys, but she ain’t
scraped off the Texans sticker off
her winder yet. She still hopin’ they
can find a quarterback what’ll hep
’em. Them folks tryin’ out fer this
job just ain’t impressin’ her very
much yet, fer some reason or
other.
Pat Lyons from down to Clifton
told me a cute story last Sunday
and I thought I’d pass it on toy’all.
Seems this feller moved into a new
community, and thought he
oughtta join a church. Pastor told
him that he’d have to pass a Bible
quiz. And the question was,
“Where was Jesus born?” Feller
answered, “Tyler.” Pastor said
nope, and recommended that he
study his Bible some and then
come back. He went to another
church, and the pastor mentioned
a Bible quiz again, and the ques-
tion was, “Where was Jesus
born?” Feller answered, “Long-
view.” Pastor turned him down fer
membership, and recommended
that he do some studyin’ in the
Bible. Feller about to git discour-
aged, but he went up to one more
church and met the pastor. Pastor
welcomed him with open arms
right away. Feller said, “I don’t
have to answer any Bible ques-
tions?” Pastor said it wasn’t nec-
essary, so the feller asked him
permission to ask him a Bible
question. Pastor said, “Fire away.”
And the question he asked the pas-
tor was, “Where was Jesus born?”
Pastor answered, “Palestine.”
Feller said, “Dad-burn, I knowed
it was over in East Texas some-
where!”
I don’t got no idea where any
y’all go to church, but I want to ask
y’all a question. Do y’all got any
over-crowdin’ problems? I’ve
talked to folks from just a bunch
of churches, and it ain’t none of ’em
been over-crowded. Plenty of
room fer many more folks. Always
amazed me that folks thought they
oughtta have a church to git baptized
in, married in, and probably buried in,
but some of ’em don’t do nuthin’ to
keep ’em open between all them func-
tions. Y’all noticed that?
Septemberfest Two Thousand-
and-Three might nigh here, and
volunteers are always needed. Got
some time you’d like to donate?
Holler at me, and I’ll put ya in
touch with the proper folks. Sec-
ond Sattidy in September!
See ya next week,
Marc,
