Two injured in crash
LIVINGSTON - Two per-
sons received minor injuries
Wednesday when two
vehicles collided at the in-
tersection of Feagin and
North Houston streets in Liv-
ingston.
A 1980 Ford driven by
Sadie Rawlett Wolfer, 70, of
Livingston was westbound
on Feagin Street when it col-
lided with a 1984 Pontiac
driven by John David Cline,
68, also of Livingston, accor-
ding to Livingston Police Of-
ficer J.D. Ener. Cline’s wife,
Mary Louise Cline, was
taken to Livingston
Memorial Hospital by
private vehicle. Wolfer was
taken to the hospital later,
also by private auto, Ener
said.
Wolfer was charged with
failure to yield right-of-way
in the accident, which occur-
red at 11:41 a.m.
During holidays
DPS to be out in force
LIVINGSTON-The Texas
Department of Public Safety
will place Operation Motor-
cide in effect for two periods
during the approaching
holidays. The Christmas
period beginning at 6 p.m.,
Friday, Dec. 23, and ending
at midnight, Monday, Dec.
26, and the New Year period
beginning at 6 p.m,, Friday,
Jan. 2.
Major A.J. Mladenka,
regional commander for the
DPS, stated that ‘During
these holiday periods, addi-
tional troopers will be on du-
ty for enforcement purposes,
with special emphasis
directed toward DWI and
speed violations.
“The department records
from 1982 reflected 83 traffic
deaths in Texas during the
combined Christmas and
New Year holiday periods.
This year, as in years past,
any reduction in the death
count will be determined by
the driving public.
“Statewide traffic
fatalities are now about 12
percent below the number
for the same period last
year. We are hopeful this
trend will continue
downward for the remainder
of the year,” Mladenka said.
“However weekends always
seem to bring a higher death
toll than do other times of the
year.
“The motoring public
should be prepared to con-
tend with the weather, light,
road, traffic and vehicle con-
ditions. However, the main
causes of traffic accidents
FAIN
NOW
SHOWING
will be drivers who drink and
drive, speed over the limit
and driver fatigue," he em-
phasized.
"We fire asking all drivers
to make this a safe holiday
season by complying with all
the traffic laws, drive defen-
sively, wear seatbelts and
provide child restraint seals
for pre-school children,”
Mladenka said.
