there, we could easily be 3-2,”
Cubs Head Coach/Athletic Di-
rector Curtis Goforth said late
last week. “To get into the post-
season, we’re going to have to
beat at least one of those top
three teams, if not all of them.”
“We get a fresh start,” the
coach said at the start of district
Friday. “We need it,” he added.
Coach Goforth concurred
wjth the observation of how
tough the district could be from
top to bottom, especially the top-
three rated squads.
“There may not be a 5-0 team
in our district. Who says
McGregor can’t beat Hamilton
or Crawford, or Crawford can’t
beat Hamilton. It could get
jumbled in a hurry. We just want
to stay a part of that mix,” he

as the only winless team (0-5).
They returned a dozen
lettermen from last year’s 4-6
(3-2) team. Since 1976, the Cubs
lead the series against Moody
with 16 wins and three losses.
Clifton prevailed 23-20 in 2005,
and 35-14 the year before.
“Moody is 0-5, but they have
been beset by injuries,” said
Coach Goforth. “They lost their
starting quarterback to a spiral
break of a finger on his throw-
ing hand on the first day of two-
a-days. They also lost others,
but they always have good ath-
letes, no matter what sport.”
Through five games, Moody
has thrown little, but their two
quarterbacks complete about 50
percent of their passes. On de-
fense, the Bearcats have a trio
of backs with an interception.
Mike Haigood leads with 51
tackles, followed by Larry
Gutierrez with 36, Petar McNiel
with 34, and Michael Dewitt
with 33.
Moody is averaging only 5.4
