i CLIFTON — The Lady Cub
•• Freshmen were 8-10 (1-3) after
a 21-25, 29-27, 20-25 loss to
: Crawford at home Tuesday,
! Oct. 3.
i “This was disappointing,”
said Coach Jim Wood. “The
girls are working hard and play
hard, but just can’t seem to put
a complete match together.”
Coach Wood noted that
K’Leigh Bedingfield served
* well, and Jana Ochoa and
Hanna Outlaw hit solid on of-
* fense.
“Heidi Lodrigue did a great
job passing and digging,” he
said.
“Our serving was much bet-
ter than it has been,” Coach
Wood concluded.
RIO VISTA - The 8th-Grade
“Green Team" Lady Cubs went
undefeated Saturday, Sept. 30,
to earn the championship title
at the Rio Vista Lady Eagles
Tournament. They opened play
with a 25-9,26-28,15-12 win over
Grandview.
“We got off to a good start
with good serves, but lost some
of our focus in the second
game,” said Coach Renee
Stroman. “We came back
strong in the third game to pull
off the win.”
Shandy Pilcher’s serves and
digs and saves by Diana Soto
and Jessica Beverly were
named keys to the win by the
coach.
Clifton followed with a 25-11,
25-14 sweep of Maypearl. Emily
McSherry had 16 serves in a
row, and Alexis Sibila had good
hits on offense. Anna West and
Silvia Chavez were named de-
fensive leaders.
“Playing as a team, all the
things we work on in practice are
starting to show in game situa-
tions,” Coach Stroman reported.
With the second win, the
Lady Cubs advanced to the title
round, facing Class AAA
Kennedale, The Lady Cubs
fought to a 28-26,16-25,15-9 vic-
tory.
“The girls played a great
match,” Coach Stroman said.
“They were moving for the ball
every play, they hustled on ev-
ery point.”
Alex Gloff and McSherry
were named offensive
standouts, with defensive lead-
ers including Beverly, Abby
Harris, Kayla Morgan, and
Sibila.
“The girls really wanted to
win the championship, and the
played like it,” the coach ex-
plained. “I couldn’t be any more
proud of them.
“They played like winners.
They are!” Coach Stroman ex-
claimed.

RIO VISTA — The 7th-
Grade “Green Team” Lady
Cubs finished in third place
after last Saturday’s Rio Vista
Lady Eagles Tournament,
winning two matches and los-
ing one. They began play, with
a 25-9, 25-14 sweep of
Grandview. ‘
“The girls played a good
match,” said Coach Shannon
Ryan. “They moved their feet,
and were ready when the ball
came over the net.”
The coach named Laura
Wilkens and Aracely Soto as
offensive standouts, and
Alyssa Rueter and Aidee Soto
(“great sets”) the defensive
leaders.
In the second contest of the
day, Clifton fell to Godley, 25-15,
22-25,8-15. Wilkens was named
a key on offense and defense,
and Jenna Smith was also
named an offensive leader.
“The girls were having prob-
lems getting their serves over
and with calling the ball,”
Coach Ryan explained. “They
just weren’t ready mentally for
the game.”
The Lady Cubs met their
hosts in the match to decide
third place, and defeated the
Lady Eagles 25-14, 14-25, 15-
10.
“The girls played their hearts
out this match ancT won third
place for the tourney. They
were really ready, and got their
serves over,” Coach Ryan re-
ported.
Offensive leaders in the final
contest included Wilkens and
Soto. Named defensive stand-
outs were Late-Lynn Richards,
Rueter, and Katelyn Minyard.
Middle School Lady
Cubs Master Moody
CLIFTON — All four Clifton
Middle School volleyball
squads were victorious in their
district matches against Moody
Monday, Oct. 2, at the CMS
gymnasium.
The 8th-Grade “Green
Team” Lady Cubs are 5-4 on
the year and 2-2 in league play
after their 25-10,25-22 win over
the Lady Bearcats.
“The team played great.
They were really moving well
and transitioning off the net,”
said Coach Renee Stroman.
“They went for every ball and
were serving well.”
Jessica Beverly, Shandy
Pilcher, Diana Soto, and Abby
Harris were noted for their
serves, and Sarah Bekken was
also named an offensive stand-
out. Defensive leaders included
Alexis Sibila, Kayla Morgan,
and Meagan Noland.

Team” Lady Cubs are 3-1 in dis-
trict play after their 25-14,25-8
win over Moody.
“The girls continue to im-
prove with every game,” Coach
Stroman said. “They are doing
a great job, and hustling.”
Offensive standouts were
Lanie Davis, Jamie Dahl, Rachel
Dickens, and Amny Rose.
Kendra Sedbeny was named the
defensive leader by the coach.
