Gladys I. Griffin
HUNTSVILLE - Funeral serv-
ices for Margaret C. Thomas, 91,
of Huntsville were held Friday,
Nov. 23, 2001, from the Huntsville
Funeral Home Chapel, with the
Rev. Reagan Cooksey officiating.
Interment followed in Magnolia
Cemetery in Onalaska.
Mrs. Thomas died Nov. 21 in
Huntsville.
She was bom Oct. 31, 1910 in
Leggett Mrs. Thomas taught
school in Onalaska for many years
in the 1930s. She also taught
school in Dayton and Hull-Daisetta
Survivors include her sister-in-
law, Helene Pruett; many nieces
and nephews, including Janice
Ogletree and Betty Cryer. and many
great-nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Jed Cryer, Ben
Royden Ogletree, Ben Royden
Ogletree IE, Clark Ogletree, Cody
Cryer and Robert Ogletree Honor-
ary pallbearers were Perry Best and
David Duff.
Pollyanna Dubourg
CROCKETT - Pollyanna Jordan
Dubourg, 77, died on Monday,
Nov. 19, 2001, in Memorial Hos-
pital m Lufkin.
She was bom Oct 9, 1924 in
Minneapolis, Minn., to Lebert
Eugene and Fnda Erika Orn Jordan.
She graduated high school and at-
tended the University of Minnesota
until her enlistment in the U S.
Navy. She was stationed in
Dahlgren, Va. and worked as a
mathematician in exterior ballistics.
She met and married Paul Jacob
Dubourg there while he was the
Marine Corps. After the end of the
war and their discharge from mili-
tary service they moved to Torring-
ton, Conn., where Paul had grown
up.
Mrs Dubourg was employed in
various fields during her working
career. For 25 years prior to her
retirement she was employed by
Charlotte Hungcrford Hospital in
the emergency room admitting de-
partment.
She is preceded in death by her
parents; two brothers, Thomas and
Victor Lebert Jordan; a daughter,
Susan; and her husband, Paul.
She is survived by a brother,
Philip Jordan of Sandia, Texas; a
sister, Barbara Bache-Wiig of
Waukesha, Wis.; and her children
Richard of Winsted, Conn., P
Thomas of Crockett, Texas, Peter
J. of Otis, Mass., Catherine Sekul-
ski of Spring Hill, Fla., Philip J.
of New Hartford, Conn, and Nancy
Lee Murphy of Leggett, Texas; 24
grandchildren and 11 great-
grandchildren. Her dog ‘Teddy” was
a great comfort to her and will stay
with Nancy.
She was known as someone who
lived up to her name, Pollyanna,
and who was a source of joy to her
many friends and relatives. She
accepted Christ as her savior early
in her life and, through her exam-
ple, led her children to Christ. She
was raised in the Methodist Church
and was a member of the Bak-
ersville Methodist Church. She was
known to attend Baptist and Pente-
costal churches, stating, “As long
as they preach the Gospel of Jesus
Christ it doesn't matter what the
name of the church is.” One of her
many favorite verses was Phillipi-
ans 4:13: “I can do all things
through Christ who strengthens
me...." She said many times to all
who knew her, “When I am gone do
not cry and mourn; but rejoice with
me because 1 am going to be in
heaven rejoicing with my Jesus.”
PITTSBURG, KAN. - Gladys I.
Giffin, 69, of Pittsburg, Kan. dod
Thursday, Nov. 15, 2001, in Mt.
Carmel Regional Medical Center.
She was born July 3, 1932 in
Overtarook, to Jefferson B. and
Stella Riley Rice. She graduated
from Overbrook High School with
the class of 1950. She moved to
Pittsburg from Topeka, Kan. in
1962.
On May 3, 1951, she mamed
Dee W. Benander. He preceded her
in death in 1961. On March 31,
1962, she married Charles “Charlie”
Giffin in Miami, Ohio. He preceded
her in death on Feb. 7, 2001.
Mrs. Giffin was a homemaker.
She also worked at the Topeka Air
Force Depot, now Forbes Air Force
Base, and the U.S. Census Bureau
of Pittsburg. She was a cook at
Pittsburg State University and the
Senior Citizen Center of Pittsburg.
She belonged to the First Church
of the Nazarene of Pittsburg and
American Business Women’s Asso-
ciation.
survivors include four daughters,
Dianna Shields of Parsons. Debi
Smith of Livingston, Texas,
Tammy Dunlap of Topeka and Ina
Johnson of Pittsburg; four sons,
Michael Giffin of Pittsburg, Robert
Giffin of Topeka, Greg Benander of
Powell, Wyo. and Jeff Benander of
San Diego, Calif.; two brothers,
Wayne Rice of Topeka and Carl
Rice of Burlingame; two sisters,
Thelma Schmidt of Overbrook and
Mary Ann Miner of Salt Lake City,
Utah; 23 grandchildren and one
great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her
parents; three sisters, Ellen Gerisch,
Dorothy Faust and Mardell Pittser,
and an infant brother. Benue Rice.
Funeral services were held Mon-
day, Nov. 19, at the First Church
of the Nazarene, with the Rev. Jim
Sufaaw officiating. Interment fol-
lowed in Garden of Memories
Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Rob Giffin,
Ryan Giffin, Tyler Smith, Jordan
Smith, Clint Johnson, Cody John-
son, Kori Benander and Nick
Benander. Honorary pallbearers were
Man Giffin, Marc Giffin, Kara
Dunlap, Mikah Giffin, Megar
Smith, Kyle Benander, Kendra Dun-
lap, Christina Giffin, Morgan
Shields, Cooper Johnson, Douglas
Shields, Kourtney Dunlap, Keaton
Benander, Kaitiyn Benander, Jenni-
fer Benander and Kendrick Benander

in charge of arrangements.

for Bud GertsoB, 77, will be held at
4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 25, 2001,
from the Cochran Funeral Home

LIVINGSTON - Funeral services
for John David Hodge Sr., 42, were
held Saturday, Nov. 24, 2001, from
the Cochran Funeral Home Chapel,
with interment following in Cleve-
land City Cemetery, Cleveland.
Mr Hodge died Tuesday, Nov
20, in Channelview.
He was bom June 20, 1959 in
Houston, the son of John and Ag-
nes Mane Pryor Hodge Sr. He was
preceded in death by his parents and
brother, Donald Ray Hodge. Mr
Hodge served in the U.S. Navy.
Survivors include his wife,
Alesia; son, John David Hodge Jr.
of Houston; stepson, James Mat-
thew Johnson of Houston; brother
and sister-in-law, John Raymond
and Melissa Hodge Jr. of Porter;
brothers, Steven Hodge of Elcajon,
Calif, and Robert Ray Hodge of
Houston; sister, Debra Hodge Bet-
selo of Corpus Christi; grand-
mother, Norma Hancock of Cleve-
land; and a host of other relatives
and friends.

Porrovecchio of Livingston died
Thursday, Nov. 22, 2001, in
Lufkin Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services will he held at
10 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 29, from
St. Joseph’s Catholic. Church in
Livingston. The family will receive
friends from 6-7 p.m. Wednesday,
Nov. 28, at St. Joseph’s Catholic
Church. The rosary will be held at
7 p.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic
Church, immediately following the
reception.

Eva Armbrister Evans
LIVINGSTON - Graveside serv-
ices for Eva Armbnster Evans, 86,
a former resident of Livingston,
will be held at 1 p.m. Monday,
Nov. 26, 2001, from Oklahoma
Community Cemetery in Tomball,
with W.W Baker Jr. officiating.
Mrs. Evans died Friday, Nov. 23,
in the Medical Center in Plano.
She was bom Dec. 8, 1914 in
Montgomery County, the daughter
of W.W. and Vielator Goodson
Baker, both of whom preceded her
in death. Mrs. Evans was a former
member of Central Baptist Church
in Livingston.
Survivors include her sons and
daughters-in-law, Ken and Susan
Armbrister of Victoria and Gary and
Nancy Armbrister of Plano; grand-
sons, Shane Armbrister of West
Columbia and Cody Armbrister of
I ouston; granddaughters, Erin
Armbrister of Austin and Kinsey
Armbrister of Plano; great-
granddaughter, Payton Armbrister
of West Columbia; brothers,
Wayne Baker of Livingston and
W.W. Baker Jr. of Dallas; and sis-
ter, Laura McAdams of Houston.
Pallbearers will be Shane
Armbrister, Cody Armbrister,
Wayne Reed Baker, Wright Baker,
John Baker, Michael Baker, David
Baker and Baker McAdams.

LIVINGSTON - Sylvia Elaine
Dugal Widener died on Friday, Nov.
23, 2001.
She was bom in Farmington,
Mo. on July 29, 1937, the daughter
of Robert and Esther Dugal. She
was a member of the Point Blank
Community Church, where she was
known for singing so beautifully
with the choir and playing the pi-
ano with grace. She was also
known as a loving mother, grand-
mother and friend who loved noth-
ing better than a good baseball
game or a round of ping-pong with
her family. She always played to
win and wanted the best for her
family and loved ones.
Survivors include her stepmother,
Lodean Dugal of Farmington, Mo.;
sister, Nancy Dugal of Marshall,
Mo.; daughter, Theresa Alford of
Huntsville; son and daughter-in-
law, Gerald and Pam Butts of Hous-
ton; son and daughter-in-law, Craig
and Kimberly Butts of Onalaska;
and daughter and son-in-law, Dayna
and Rick Greenleaf of Boulder,
Colo. Her grandchildren, whom she
loved and loved bragging about to
whoever would listen, are: Natalie
and Jamie Alford, Shawn and Lisa
Butts, Kristen, Melissa and Bo,
Courtney, Mary and Shanna Green-
leaf. She had a special place in her
heart for her grandmother, Nannie
Elizabeth Dugal, who preceded her
in death in 1959, and her father,
who died in January of 1998.
Family visitation will be at Co-
chran Funeral Home on Sunday,
Nov. 25, 6-10 p.m. Services will
be held at noon on Monday, Nov.
26, at Point Blank Community
Church, with Pastor Baily presid-
ing, with interment following in
Center Grove Cemetery in Oak-
hurst.
