While touring London, a young
woman went to a shop to buy tea.
She automatically added some
money for tax. The clerk returned
the changed, explaining “No tax on
tea.” When the customer expressed
surprise, the clerk tartly said, “But,
madam, that is what your revolu-
tion was about!”

Summer TAG Available
Parents of Clifton students who are
in the Gifted and Talented Program
are encouraged to take advantage of
summer university TAG programs in
the state this year.
According to TAG teacher Rayanne
Copple, numerous summer Gifted and
Talented programs are being offered
by state and private universities in
the state this year. Many of the pro-
grams offer financial aid on a first-
come, first-serve basis.
Among the universities participat-
ing are Texas Wesleyan, Baylor,
SMU, and Texas Tech. Interested Par-
ents of TAG students may contact Ms
Copple or counselor Gail West.
Seventh Grade Studies
Texas Wildflowers
To foster an appreciation in her
Texas History students of the natur-
al beauty all around them in Texas,
teacher Jo Carrol Wise has begun a
class project on Texas wildflowers.
Her students are being given the op-
portunity to make extra-credit wild-
flower notebooks which must contain
25 different varieties of pressed and
dried Texas wildflowers accurately
named.

This past week, students saw color
slides of 80 varieties of flowers and
had access to a variety of pamphlets
and Texas Highways magazines to
helpl them with their identification.
Ms. Wise has cautioned her students
against collecting their specimens
along state or federal highways where
violators will be fined.
Fifth Six-Weeks Ends Friday
The school year is approaching the
final stretch this week as we conclude
the final week of the fifth sixth-weeks.
Students will be bringing home report
cards Wednesday of next week.
In an effort to head off possible
failures, Counselor Gail West met
with all students this past week who
received progress reports showing cur-
rent grades of 75 or below. It was
stressed in her meetings that there is
little time left to rectify low grades in
the core subjects of English, social
studies, science, math and reading.
Parents of students in serious
danger of failing the school year will
soon be receiving warning letters
from the school.
Back Problems Hospitalize
Two Employees
Eighth-grade English teacher Geor
geanne Kettler and elementary/mid-
dle school maintenance man Charlie
Cox are in Waco hospitals this week
for back surgery.
Ms. Kettler has been contending
with considerable shoulder pain re-
cently and has been forced to have cor-
rective surgery to correct a pinched
nerve in her upper spine. She is ex-
pected to miss up to two weeks of
school.
Mr. Cox is having back surgery this
week, also followinga recent period of
pain and incapacity.
Part-Time Help Needed
The elementary/middle school is
currently in need of both a crossing
guard and substitute bus-drivers.
Through May of this school year, a
crossing guard is needed to help mid-
dle school and elementary students
across dangerous Highway 6 at the in-
tersection of the highway and 11th
Street. We currently have a guard
during the afternoon but would like
to obtain someone who could be there
both in the afternoon and morning or
morning only. If interested, call the
elementary school at 675-3312
We also are in need of individuals
in the community who are licensed to
drive a school bus and could fill in
when one of our regular drivers is ill.
If you are qualified or would like to
become qualified, call the elementary
school.

Think On These Things
“Be still and listen,” I tell myself
when I can't seem to comprehend al
the thoughts that flood my mind. Ideas
and thoughts, “Please slow down." I
need my thoughts to slow down that I
may have the time to categorize each
of them; to think about each one and
decide how to apply them.
In one category are those to savor
and use now and file the others in the
recorder of my mind.
The other category are the ones not
feasible. Those are the ones I quickly
discard. I only want to keep the
thoughts and ideas that help me stay
tuned into love and harmony with God
and His Word.
These lofty thoughts and ideas are
pleasing to God and we can apply them
into our hearts and lives
There is a guideline in the Scripture
that helps us to recognize the right
category of thoughts to hold onto.
Philipians 4:8 says, “Finally,
brethren,
Whatsoever things are true,
Whatsoever things are honest,
Whatsoever things are just,
