THE KERMIT VARSITY BOYS GOLF TEAM recently took third in the Snyder tournament.
Members are Lucas Gordon, Brody Burns, Adrian Carrasco, Coach Lowery, Nathan Ornelas
and Eron Berzoza.
Jacket golfers come in third
The Kermit Yellow Jacket
men’s golf team placed third in
the annual Snyder Invitational
Golf Tournament last week.
First went to Levelland and
second went to Midland Lee JV.
“The conditions were tough
with a chilly 40 degrees at tee
time and gusting winds, but
the boys didn’t let that stop
them from putting forth their
best efforts,” said Coach Ross
Lowery.
On Friday, the first round
of the tournament was held at
Scurry County Golf Course. The
course features narrow fairways,
lined with trees.
“Although each team
member felt frustrated at times
with their play, the team as a
whole played well and sat in
third place on conclusion of play
on Friday,” the coach explained.
The last round of play was
held at Western Texas College
Golf Course. The WTC course
wasn’t as narrow as the course
on Friday, but most holes were
lined with water hazards.
Once again the team played
well and ended up finishing in
third place for the tournament.
“The Jackets were
understandably excited about
the win in their first outing
of the year,” Coach Lowery
said. “Perhaps the biggest
encouragement was that they
posted essentially the same
scores as they did at the end
of last year. All of the Yellow
Jacket players are determined to
reduce their scores as the season
progresses and hope to extend
into post-season play.”
The next tournament is in Ft.
Stockton Feb. 15-16.
Jacket scores include
Lucas Gordon—84, 87;
Nathan Ornelas—84, 87;
Adrian Carrasco—88, 88;
Eron Berzoza—87, 83; Brody
Burns—97, 105.
Lady Daubers
defeat Cranes
in season finale
The Kermit Junior High
School Lady Dauber basketball
teams played their last home
game of the season Monday
night against the Golden Cranes.
“After all the hard work put
forth this year by these ladies,
everyone came out on top with
a win to end district play,” said
Coach Jordana Middleton.
The KJH eighth grade A
squad defeated the visiting
Cranes 25-7. Leading scorers for
Kermit were Jaycie Mills and
Brigit Zubia.
Kermit’s eighth grade B
squad defeated Crane 24-13.
Leading the Kermit scoring
effort were Bella Briones, Gaby
Soltero and Krystina Valdez.
The Lady Dauber seventh
grade A team defeated Crane
24-7. Offensive leaders for KJH
were LeAnn Schaller, Macie
Haile and Jordan Rodriguez.
The Kermit seventh grade B
team defeated the Cranes 21-7.
Kermit’s leading point-makers
were Hailie Robinson, Leonela
Lujan and Dalilah Montoya.
The Kermit Lady Daubers
will be playing in the district
tournament Saturday in Sonora.
