Thursday, Jan 7, with a 26-16 loss
to Dublin, putting them at 3-2 on the
season.
“We were a little rusty after the
Christmas break However, we
played good, hard nosed defense,'
said Coach Gary McDonnel.
Top scorer for the Cubs was Cur
tis Rust with five, following by
David Blassingame with four.
James Jenson had three, Salvador
Guerrero had two, and Curtis Rice
and Aaron Thompson had one
apiece Ricky Perales was espe
dally sharp on defense.

The Bucks took back the lead,
scoring eight pi ints to finish the
period, with an Eric Keeton trey
from the corner sandwiched in-be-
tween
The Cubs fought back to tie the
game early in the second on an in-
bound pass to Ben Stenmark.
Prueitt got a block, then Trey
Cortez fed Keeton for two on the
transition, putting the score at 14-all,

that point, taking control at 22-16.
Jason Slade drove and banked one
in, then fed Chris Sandahl down low
for two, but Breckenndge closed
out the scoring in the first half with
a lay up at the buzzer, taking a six
point margin into intermission.
The Bucks took control in the
third Cortez fed Stenmark on a
breakaway lay-up, then Scaff
scored on an inbound pass, but the
Bucks had built a 12 point lead at
that point
Clifton cut the lead to nine with a
Prueitt free-throw and a two-point
set shot, but then Breckenndge
grabbed control again, reeling off
six pornts to finish the third penod
of play
Clifton started the fourth with
Prueitt hitting a free shot then a
turnaround jumper in the paint
Sandahl hit a bank shot, then
Cortez sank two from the line, but
the Buckaroos came back again
and widen the lead to 51-34
Slade hit a free throw, then the
Bucks hit a pair, with the Cubs fin

CLIFTON - The 8th-grade Cub
“A-team” started district play
Thursday, Jan 7, falling to Dublin
by three, 29-26. The loss put the
Cubs at 2 3 on the season
“What a difference a new year
makes,” said Coach Pat Propes
“We started out slow and never re
ally got untracked, especially our
shooting. We shot 10-of-68, and that
won t win many ball games.”
7th-Grade B' Team
Alec Scaff was high scorer for the
Cubs with 14 Others in the score
book were Chris Finney (4), Kyle
Forson (4), Clint Roberts (2), and
James Bovle (2).

“We did play good, solid defense,
and out shooting will get better,”
McDonnel added.
Lions Clip Middle School Cubs
CLIFTON — Dublin took a 22-18 win Thursday, Jan. 7, as the 7th grade
Cub “B-team” started district play with a loss. The defeat put the Cubs at
0-5 on the season.
“This was the best job all year by
this group of young men. They
played great as a team, and have improved tremendously This is not the
same team that left for Christmas break,” said Coach Mark James.
Kyle Ogle led all Cub scorers with eight points. Five Cubs had two points
each, including Chase Woodruff, Pedro Ramirez, Chris Vowell, Andrew
Aars, and Chris Kerby.
“Addison Pierce and Kevin Bauersfeld did a great job on defense,”
added the coach.

Freshman Cubs Down
West, Stung By Gatesville
CLIFTON — The 9th-grade Cubs
are 8-4 after a recent win and loss
on the road. Clifton traveled to West
Friday, Jan. 8, dropping the Trojans,
53-25.
“This was probably one of our
best offensive games all sea-
son,” said Coach Pat Propes.
“Everyone was a big part of the
win. Our defense, especially our
press, was really working well

Chris Evans and Trent Dietiker
both scored in double-digits with
14 apiece. Taylor Strickland (7),
Chase Philipp (5), and Evan Sten-
mark (5) also helped pace the of
fensive attack.
“Everyone played excellent de
fense tonight, which led to several
buckets on turnovers,” the coach
added.
At Gatesville Monday, Jan. 11, the
freshmen were stung by the Hor-
nets, 54-50.
“A good effort and great hustle
from the entire team tonight. Offen-
sively we were better tonight, but
we were not as sharp on defense
as we have been in recent games,
and I believe it was the difference
in this close game,” said the
coach.
“Evans and Philipp had good
nights out front with the ball,”

“A-team" began league play Thurs
day, Jan 7, dropping a 45-41 deci
sion to Dublin The Cubs are still
searching for their first win of the
year (0-5).
“This was an excellent game for
us, the best game of the year so far, "
said Coach Mark James "We
played good defensively, and out-
press offense clicked on all cylin
ders even though we practiced it for
the first time that week."
Aaron Raines led the Cub scor-
ers with 10. Other leading scorers
