What To Do
Cultural Activities:
Cultural activities in Clifton include
the Bosque Conservatory, home of the
Tin Building Theatre Group, the
Conservatory’s Art Council, the Educa-
tion Council, the Art Club, the Photog-
raphy Club, the Weavers and Fibers
Guild, and various dance and martial
arts/self-defense classes, among other
activities.
Central Texas Academy of Perform-
ing Arts provides a variety of dance and
exercise-related classes in its location
across from City Hall.
Bosque Memorial Museum (West 9th
Street and South Avenue Q, (254) 675-
3845) boasts one of the largest collec-
tions of Norwegian artifacts in the South
and Southwest. Numerous and diverse
volumes of books and publications are
available at the Nellie Pederson Civic
Library. The Clifton area also has been
established as a haven for famous West-
ern artists.
Entertainment:
The historic CLIFTEX Theatre
shows first-run feature movies. The the-
atre is located at 306 West 5th Street.
Video stores also supply a wealth of en-
tertainment.
A cornucopia of events dot the map
around Clifton every year, including
such annual events as the American
Legion Barbecue Cookoff,
FreedomFest, Central Texas Fair and
Rodeo, Norse Smorgasbord, Norwegian
Bosque County «*,
created and organized in 1854. The
county was named for the Bosque
River, and the Spanish word Bosque
roughly translated means woods or
woody.
