Bosque County Collection At Home
In Meridian’s Lumpkin Building
MERIDIAN—After 10 years of hard
work, the Bosque County Historical
Commissions’ Collection has moved
into its new home in the historic
Lumpkin Building on the courthouse
square in Meridian.
The Collection was established in
1983 as a research center for local his-
tory of Bosque County. Its mission is
to collect and preserve historic as
well as current materials about the
county in order to make them readily
available to researchers.
Chairman Elizabeth Torrence has
been the backbone of the Collection
since its inception and she continues
to work on a regular basis; research-
ing, raising funds to support the col-
lection, and helping researchers
learn more about Bosque County.
Using the Texas Collection at
Baylor University as its model, the
local Collection has saved and is sav-
ing irreplaceable historical materials
pertaining to the county that were not
and are not being saved by any other
organization or entity.
After existing on the third floor of
the Bosque County Courthouse since
1983, the Collection purchased the

Lumpkin Building in 1992. After sev-
eral fund-raising events, many indi-
vidual donations, and several grants,
the Lumpkin Building was fully re-
stored and renovated, including the in-
stallation of an elevator, as was ready
for occupancy in 2001.

Collection at (254) 435-6182 or by mail
at PO. Box 534, Meridian, TX 76665.
Bosque County Flag Replicas,
Chisholm Trail Maps Available
MERIDIAN—The Lumpkin Building,
which houses the Bosque County Collec-
tion, is waving a new flag these days in
downtown Meridian, and replicas are on
sale now in celebration of the county’s
150th anniversary in 2004.
This flag was designed by former
Bosque County Judge Earl (Pete) Page
in 1985, and was officially designated as
Bosque County’s official flag by the Com-
missioners’ Court this March.
Judge Page’s original 76x46-inch flag,
which is currently hanging in the Elec-
tion Oak Reception Room of the Collec-
tion, is priceless, but each 3x5 foot replica
costs $40. Desk size flags are on sale for
$10 apiece, but are going quickly because
of limited quantities.
Fbr more information on ordering the
official Bosque County Flag, write to the
Bosque County Historical Commission
at PO. Box 534, Meridian, Texas, 76665,

signed by Ron Carlisle, Chock Word, and
