The Bosque County Collection
MERIDIAN—The Bosque County Collec
Uon. a part of the Bosque County Historical
Commission, was established in 1983 as a re
search center for local history of Bosque
County. Its mission is to collect and preserve
historic as well as current materials about the
county in order to make them readily avail
able to researchers
Using the Texas Collection at Baylor
University as its model, the Bosque
County Collection has saved and is sav
ing irreplaceable historical materials
pertaining to the county that were not
and are not being saved by any other or
ganization or entity
Presently located on the third floor of
the courthouse in Meridian, the collection
has outgrown the two rooms it now occu

is not readily accessible to all researchers

Growing Into Next Century

CLIFTON - The Nellie Pederson
Civic Library in Clifton is 47 years
old, and after begin housed in the
Clifton Civic Center for the past 25
years, the library is looking to the
future in a new home.
Following the gift of a portable
building from the Clifton Indepen-
dent School District, the Clifton
Civic Improvement Society re-
quested and received a lot from the
City of Clifton located behind the
Civic Center.
Funding from the Clifton Eco-
nomic Development Corporation,
for the initial work on the library
building, has been approved in the
amount of $40,200. Architectural
designer Vivian Ender has recently
completed building plans centered
on the portable building, and the
Society is currently awaiting speci-
fications for the building.
“As soon as the building specifi-
cations are complete, we can adver-
tise for bids from building
contractors and get the new library
underway,” said Civic Society
0 xmut ttqJ
President Eileen Day.
Placement of the building on the
lot will not only afford plenty of park-
ing space for readers, Dut it will also
afford room for further ejpansion of
the library in the future.
“We are excited about the plans to
move to a larger space,” said Librar-
ian Judith Merrett, “and we look for-
ward to all the extra conveniences
we can offer the community once we
are moved.”
The annual Harvest Dinner in Oc-
tober will help the Society with some
funding for the library, but the Soci-
ety will also be looking for grants
and donations to help purchase
shelving and books.
