PROJECTS
The Heart of Texas Council of Govern-
ments anticipates having approximately
$151,000 available to local governments
in FY 2000 for solid waste management
projects which implement the Regional
Solid Watte Management Plan for tha
Heart of Taxat Raglon The State has
identified several program priorities for
these funds The Legislature has directed
that projects must promote cooperation
between public and private entities
The following public entities are eligible
for grant funding under this program (non
profit organizations and private companies
are not directly eligible, but may be sub
contracted by eligible public entities)

* Counties
* Public Schools end School
Districts (excluding universities and
other post-secondary educations
Institutions)
* General and Special Law District*

Success Grant, better known as the
TEXAS Grant. The grant will be
administered through the Texas
Higher Education Board in Austin
and through local student financial
aid offices such as the one at Hill
College.
The purpose of this program is to
provide grants of money to enable
eligible students to attend public
and private institutions of higher
education in this state.
A certain amount of money will
be allocated to the colleges and the
financial aid offices will be respon
sible for implementing the rules
and following the criteria.
To receive an initial award
through the TEXAS Grant pro
gram, a student must:
• Be a resident of Texas.
• Show financial need.
• Have applied for any financial
aid assistance.
• Be enrolled, unless approved
under Section 22.229 for hardship
provision, at least three-quarter
time in an undergraduate degree or
certificate program at an eligible
institution.
• Not have been granted a bac-
calaureate degree.
• Be a graduate of a public or
accredited private high school in
Texas not earlier than the 1998-99
school year, having completed the
recommended or advanced high
school curriculum established by
the Texas Education Code, and en
roll as an entering undergraduate
student not later than the end of the
16th month after the month of high
school graduation.

aid office at Hill College, or the col-
lege of their choice, to find out
about deadlines and procedures. To

Leadership Day Held At Meridian State Park
FORT WORTH — A group of
Bosque County young 4 Hers
were awarded an appreciation
trip last week to Fort Worth to
tour “Thistle Hill," a cattle
baron's mansion, followed by a
trip to the Cattleman's Mu
seum
The group learned of the rise
of determined and hard work
ing men and women who helped
make and shape the beef Indus
try. In the midst of herding
cattle. Texans also discovered
oil, and together, the "new
wealth" for simple cowboys, as
well as prosperous cattlemen
began
Talking cows, wax robots, and
carved and silvered saddles
were a few of the fascinating
items the students saw at the
museum, while tour guides re
lated colorful facts for the kids
to ponder.
The group had a picnic lunch
and cooled off swimming, be
fore returning to Bosque
County.
Among those in attendance
were day-camp leaders, Jared
Hamilton of Meridian Wendi
Snider of Clifton. Rachel Cloth
of Walnut Springs, and bicycle
safety leaders, Shiloah Long of
Valley Mills, Katrina Jackson,
James Jackson, and Lance
Baker of Meridian Chaperones
included Kathy Jackson. Pam
Long, and 4 H assistant Donna
Stevens
Annual Leadership Day
Thirty four club officers from
six Bosque County 4 H Clubs
met at Meridian State Park for
training and planning as the
new school year approached
Arriving early, some participated
in a "who's who" quiz with clues
pertaining to specific character^
tics of each youth A general ses
sion was followed by small study
groups defining duties and methods
for leading respective clubs
Swimming and a hot dog cook
out ended the day
