Citizens awarded for cleanup efforts
At the first annual awards dinner
of Keep Folk County Beautiful
(KPCB), the relatively new local
anti-litter organization presented
over 50 certificates to groups and in-
dividuals, attempting to forget no
one who deserved recognition for
their anti-litter accomplishments
As many as 138 attended the event
at CftiinpChd-Yeh oh March 29. Like
the principals that KPCB stands for,
the event was uncluttered: an infor-
mal but well organized program
devoid of officious ceremony.

designed to teach youngsters not to
litter. A video documentary pro-
ducted by Bubba Haley also was

The speaker for the occasion was
native Polk Countian Henry
Thomason of Austin, who is deputy
director of field operations for the
Texas Department of Highways and
Transportation. Thomason
reminisced about the early ’40’s in
Polk County and explained how the
highway department is involved in
cleanup efforts across the state.
