Lions Roar
The mighty I Jons- really show-
ed their might last Friday when
they met the Aquillu Cougars on
ihe football field. Both teams
worked hard, but the Lions were
by far the better of the two, We
thank Mr. David Brown and Mr,
John Hastings for giving of their
time to referee the scrimmage.
After the game, homemade ice
cream and cookies were served
to ail the team members and fans
from both Aquilla and the Gap.
We thank all the people who
helped make this possible.
There were lots of entries from
the Gap in the Central Texas
Fair last week. Several entered
the dress revue, too. Final re-
sults will be reported next week.
Everybody enjoyed the Labor
Day holiday. It gave lots of time
for doing either those ' things
that have been put off or just
nothing.
If you saw the Lions perform
last week, you will want to make
it a point not to miss their first
game of Iho season. It will be in
the Lion's stadium at 8 o'clock
against the Covington Owls.
Mark September 8 on the calen-
dar because now we know what
the Lions are capable of doing,
and we need to support them

SENIOR NEWS
Last week in our literature
class we lead part of “ChaOcCr's
Canterbury Tales". Then we
wrote a parody on it about our
classmates.
The seniors are putting the
annual together. We have chosen
the cover, inside pages, and
dividing pages.
College and the future is loom-
ing ahead for us. Several have
begun writing for information
and planning to visit colleges.
Monday was a holiday from
school, but Tuesday we were
back in time.
We are selling ribbons for the
game with Covington Friday
night. The senior girls will per-
form at half time.

South Texas
AUSTIN — Quail season for
the South Central District has
been changed to begin earlier
than the uniform statewide dat-
es set last month by the Texas
Parks and Wildlife Commossion.
The season now is No. 18.
1H72, to Jan. 31, 1973, with a daily
bag of 12 and 36 in possession
Previously, all counties in the
state under the regulatory auth-
ority of the commission were
given the same quail daets of
Dec. 1-Feb. 15.
Counties affected by the change
are Aransas, Atascosa, Bee,
Bexar, Cameron, Dimmit, Duval,
Frio, Hidalgo, Jim Wells, Kar-
nes, Kinney, Live Oak, Mave-
rick, Medina. Starr. Uvalde,
Webb, Willacy, Wilson and
Zavala.
In six of these counties, the
doles are subject to approval
of county commissioners courts.
They are Dimmit, Frio, Kinney,
Medina. Uvalde and Zavala.
The commission adopted the
change on a staff recommenda-i
tion based on July census line
data which indicated an increase
of 182 percent in the quail popu-
lations in the South Texas coun-
ties. - — ,,

AUSTIN- Tagging the deer
is normally the last legal step,
but one more simple procedure
is required this season of hunt-
ers who send parts of their ven-
ison in different directions.
Recent action by the Texas
Parks and Wildlife Commission
requires that any portion of the
kill given to a fellow hunter must
have a note signed by the hunter
making the kill With his name,
address, hunting license number
and die date and location of the
k£
The note, or the regular tag
if the hunter making the bag
keen* ah of the carcass, must
accompany the meat until it
reaches its final destination,
Parks and Wildlife law en-
forcement officials interpret
"final destination” as the per-
manent residence of the hunter
or a commercial processing
plant:
This helps game management
officers do a better job hy in
suring that deer are harvested
legally and identified as such.
Lei’s use ah example of a
hunter who kills a deer and
wants to share the meat. He
gives a ham to one hunting
partner and the backstrap to
another.
A note must accompany each
cut, and, of course, the usual
deer tag is required on the por-
tion retained by the hunter.
