Speaking of (he Houston House- reminds me
that Thayer the incomparable Thayer ha
made an entire revolution in this to us
Houstoniaiis time honored Public House ;
not being able to visit this house we ap-
pointed our Kentucky friends as a committee
of investigation knowing that vthey weie
fully competent to make a satisfactory and
close examination of the manner in which
this house is kept ; their report is to us satis-
factory and I make no doubt "ill prove the
same to those of our up country friends who
may give him a call. One admirable quality
has mine host he is ever at his post anxious
to ghe satisfaction and conliibutc to the
comfort of all his ccsts.
There has been a gloom cast over our city
to-day and it is with sincere sorrow I record
the death of Mrs. M. II. Gray relict of the
late Wm. Fairfax Gray; to know her was
to love her as she was one who po-sesscd-all
the qualifications necessary to adorn the
female character whether we regard her as
the amiable wife fond parent firm friend j
good samantan or pious christian. She has
left a blank in our society that will not be
easily filled. Her lemains were followed
to their last resting place in the Episcopal
burial ground by one of the largest funeral
trains that we ever witnessed in this cty and
while the solemn services ol the Eii-coi:il
Church were being performed b the Rev.
Mr. Gil let many a tear was shed many a
bosoju hea-ed with sorrow for the los of otic
so univetsally beloved. Requicscal in pace
Tins city continues healthy ; emigiants
from Alabama Missis-ippi and Louisiana
arfioeking in. Electioneering; is the order
is the day and is becoming warm.
