TREAT BAG WJIRMS NOW
Texas arbor' yi-tae and cedar trees
tK's .year have received- one "of the
■hoayiest infestations of . bag worms
a >d urg?s prompt, treatment while the
iiseits.are still in the infant stage;
The masses of leaf particles, ad-
hering to a tough case, are the cases
of the, bag worm. This worm lives
within the bag crawling about with'it
in deeding, during which act it partly
emerges -from the caS,e.
About August the worm is fully
grown, and after firmly attaching the
case to. a twig, pupates therein. ' By
fall the fefnale insect has- entirely
shriveled, leaving nothing but a mgsS
of eggs' within the bag. These eggs
pass the winter and hatch the follow-"
ing spring, producing a great number
of small worms, each of which builds
a new nest and, so repeats the cycle.
' -Infested trees or shrubs may 'be
treated by spraying with, three table-
spopnfulfi of lead arsenate in one .gal-
lon of water. On small trees where,
spraying js not practical, removing
hags by1 hand is suggested. These
may thon bo destroyed by burning.—■
