The Spring Festival was a
huge success last Thursday night
despite the rain. Winding the
Hay Pole never ceasts to be
of interest to all ages. The stu-
dents and teachers are to be
commended for their hours of
work which produced such a
st>ectacular event.
Another affair immensely en-
joyed last weekend was the Ju-
nior-Senior Banquet & Prom. The
juniors,, seniors, and teachers
journeyed by school bus to El
Chico's Restaurant in Waco. The
Prom was held at the Youth
Center in Meridian. It was a
memorable night.

Army Armor Center, Fort Knox,
Kentucky. Sergeant John David
will receive his discharge early
in June.

For Ft. Sill, Okla.
Three locals are members
of the Gatesville - Lampasas
National Guard Company which
became an Army unit and began
a period of active federal duty
which may last up to two years.
Randy Hansen, Randy Lee and
Clarence Meissner left Monday,
May 13 for the Gatesville Armo-
ry where the 7 a.m. muster was
held. Minutes later an advance
detachment of 14 troops left for
Fort Sill, Okla., where the com-
pany will be stationed.
The main body of troops of
which the Gapites are included,
remained to sort and store equip-
ment and close the armory.
They will make the 257-mile
trip to Ft. Sill on May 20 in a
26-vehiele convoy.
Randy J. Hansen is the son of
Mr. and Mrs. Ted Hansen. Otha
Randy Lee is the son of Mr. and j
Mrs. Otha Lee. Clarence R. !
Meissner is the son of Mr. and
Mrs. Albert Meissner. All three
are graduates of Cranfills Gap
High School.
The company, commanded by
Capt. Noel McLaughlin, is mo-
bilized with a strength of 123
men. The company served ten
months at Fort Polk, La.
The captain said that the mor-
ale of the unit was "generally
excellent.”
In a special review on the
armory grounds recently, the
troops were inspected by Major
General Thomas S. Bishop, ad-
jutant general of the Texas Na-
tional Guard.Bishop talked with
each trooper and then addressed
the company.
“You arc the first of perhaps
several additional units which
may be called to active duty,"
he said. "We are very proud of
the company and proud of each
of you. I know you will make
a very enviable record.” •
He also presented the company
a 3x5 foot Texas flag. He said
the flag waspresented on be-
half of the state of Texas.
At Fort Sill, the U3th will be
quartered in new brick aircon-
ditioned barracks.

at the Long Branch Cafe. Twen-
ty-four members and two guests
enjoyed the noon meal.
A traffic safety film was also
enjoyed.
