Dear Mr. Jordan:
This law firm represented
the executors under the wi'l
of Hendrick C. Dahl and now
represents Mrs. Bcrtyce Ward
Dahl, Frank W. Clark Jr and
Walter R. Hilkcr Jr., as trus-
tees under the will of Mr.
Dahl.
Mrs. Dtihl ha3 given us a
copy of her letter to you dated
May 26, 1976, and also a
copy of her letter addressed
to Mayor Jim B Smith of the
same date on the same subject
of 'her letter to you.
We hope there is a good ex
planation for the City of Clif-
ton allowing the Dahl Memori-
al Dark to deteriorate so badly
in such a short period of time,
and further, that we *oon will
learn that the situation was
due to .temporary fiscal cir-
cumstances of the city and is
now being corrected.
Surely, the city would have
declined the gift by Mr. and
Mrs. Dathl, thus allowing the
$30,000 allocated for the park
construction to be diverted to
worthwhile purposes if the city
had even suspected that its
budget would not allow ade-
quate maintenance of the park
for its residents.
Perhaps there have been few
people who have remembered
the City of Clifton with gifts
for civic improvements, and
that the gift by Mr. and Mrs.
Dahl was truly exceptional.
One thing is clear to us as
attorneys who are preparing
wills and trusts for people
every day: even the exceptional
circumstances will not occur
for the City of Clifton, or for
many other cities in the United
States, unless the city takes
far better care of that which is
received than did the City of
Clifton with the Dahl Memo-
rial Pyrk
