Nixons' Present Chess
Set of Porcelain to
People of Russia
A Presidential Gift of State U
the U. S. S. K. is a magnificent
porcelain chess set created by
Cybis Studio of Trenton, New
Jersey, The inscription reads
"Presented to the people of the
Inion of Soviet Socialist Repub
lies from President and Mrs.
Richard Nixon and the peopk
ol the United States of America.”'
The chess set, a handmade!
work of art, required months of
planning and execution. Each ot
the 32 sculptures, standing six
'to seven inches in height, i:
individually fashioned in semi-
medieval garb, colored in bur-
gundy and turquoise, and orna-
mented in 18 carat gold.

cheese board is based on a fit
teenth century design, and its
squares are of American black
walnut and curly maple wood.
The chessmen are housed in ;
handmade black walnut chest,
lined in brown velvet. On the in-
side ot the lid is the Presidential
Seal in color, also in porcelain.
Cameoed in the center of this
almost transparent porcelain i:
