JAILBIRDS ALIVE!! - Our coun-
selor, Ms. West, and yours truly were
hauled off to jail last Wednesday on
various trumped-up charges. Judge
Joy Mean (alias Joy Schmidt) — The
Law West of the Bosque — handed me
down stiff fines, which we had to come
up with in order to be released. The
students of Clifton Elementary came
through for me!! They collected
$103.92!!! Representatives from each
class brought the fine money and
came to collect me in a school bus with
the aid of Mrs. Payne and Mrs. Phil-
lip. Ms. West? Well...she FINALLY
came up with her bail with the help
of the elementary staff, Mr. Lairdon,
and other sympathetic people in the
community. (In reality, this was all
done in good Am to participate in rais-
ing money for the March of Dimes!!)
VENTRILOQUIST - On Friday,
Oct S, we will have a program
presented by Jim Dickson. He did a
program for the children last year,
and thsy loved it. There is an admis-
sion charge of $.60 per student.

CLIFTON — The National Junior
Honor Society of Clifton Middle
School is alive and well, according
to advisor Sue Miller. Consisting of
nine members this semester, the
Honor Society is already actively
pursuing several projects.
The pace is accelerating as the
nine students begin to formulate
their plans for a sports card conven-
tion, to be held Saturday, Oct. ‘
at the Civic Center. Informatidi
the upcoming convention is
distributed in Waco, Fast .lt
and other surrounding coi
nities.
The convention will be held
10 a.m. until 4 p.m. Tables will
available^) rent by individuals
are interested in selling or trai
their cards.
Honor Society students are
scheduling their two-mile clea:
on Highway 219. They had into:
ed their project to be done on
22, but it had to be cancelled di
the much-needed rain.
Besides their group project, mem-
bers do individual projects that pro-
vide services within the school,
community, and church. The “serv-
ice” that these students provide is
only one aspect of the five outstand-
ing attributes that are a vital part
of a NJHS member. Other qualifi-
cations are leadership, character,
citiaenahip,and scholarship.
NJHS members this semester
asre Gabriel Hall, president; Betsy
Spitzer, vice-president; Kristie Bar-
nett, secretary; Terri Williams,
treasurer, Justin Miller, report-
er/historian; and Jake Miller, chair-
man of committees. Active
members include Wesley Godby,
Mike Salyards, and Mark
Stenmark.
DON’T LEAVE ME HERE - Clifton Elementary Principal Ter-
re 11 Miller pleads from his cell to be balled out by a group of stu-
dents from the elementary school. The fun was all part of a “Jail
and Bail" fundraiser to benefit the March of Dlmee Birth Defects
Foundation. Also pictured at left is Judge Joy Mean (Joy
Schmidt).
