•Circleville Philosopher Breaks
Rule and Offers Some Advice
To President of United States
Editor’s note: The Circleville
Philosopher on his Johnson
grass farm on the Gabriel gets
into international affairs this
week. Anything to get the spot-
light off his own shortcomings.
Dear editar:
I’ve never been interested in
trying to tell the President of
the United States how to operate
things. I’ve,got more than, I’m in-
terested in tackling out here on
this Johnson grass farm and
anyway, it’s a lot easier to criti-
cize yesterday than to prescribe
for tomorrow, but I’m going to
break my rule and offer some
advice.
As I understand it, the Pres-
ident is going to meet in Europe
with Premier Khrushchev so the
two can sort of get acquainted
and size each other up and dis-
cuss future relations of the two
countries.
Unless the President has oth-
er business in Europe, I have a
suggestion to make.
Why doesn’t the Taylor Press
run a contest to pick the most
unreliable man in the United
States and let him sit in for
Khrushchev and hold the sum-
mit meeting in this country? It’d
save time and travel expense
and we could hear all the lies in
English.
Discussing the future with
Khrushchev is like trying to draw
up a contract with the weather.
I’d just as soon rely on my
corns to tell me when a tornado’s
coming as to bank oh what Khru-
shchev promises.
What we ought to do is find
the most unreliable man in this
country, let him sit in for Khru-
shchev, hold, the meeting in Wash-
ington, solemnly report what he
has to say, toast him with vodka,
and get to work tin some accu-
rate missiles.
You know, around here, after
a man has pretty well established
a reputation for breaking his
promises, nobody sells to him on
credit. Based on what Khrush-
Taylor Daily Press, Thursday, May 25, 1961, Page 3
chev has promised and what he
has done, I’d say he couldn’t
even buy a second-hand tractor
with steel wheels on time in Wil-
liamson County.
Khrushchev makes a great pose
of representing the great moral
fibre of a dedicated nation burn
ing with zeal for humanity, but
that’s mostly hogwash. He’s a
tough, smart, shrewd character
whose promises today nave no
relation to his deeds tomorrow.
He proclaims his word is as
good as his bond, but you’ve got
to remember that’s a Russian
bond he’s talking about.
Yours faithfully,
J. A.
