THE CHURCH FOR ALL . .
ALL FOR THE CHURCH
The Church is the greatest factor on
earth for the building of character and
good citizenship. It is a storehouse of
spiritual values. Without a strong Church,
neither democracy nor civilization can
survive. There are four sound reasons
why every person should attend services
regularly and support the Church. They
are: (,1) For his own sake. (2) For his
children’s sake. (3) For the sake of his
community and nation. (4) For the sake
of the Church itself, which needs his
moral and material support. Plan to go
to church regularly and read your Bible
daily. ■

COUNTY COOKS’CORNER
By CONNIE SHERLEY
Another summer is getting un-
' derway and- amid much packing
and confusion I bring you my last
Texas-edited County Cook for the
next couple of months. Next week
I'll be writing from the moun-
tains of Colorado, and I have
• promises-of many wonderful re-
. ‘Pipes to brighten your summer
cooking. This week’s hot weather
dispels our qualms about leaving
home 'for three months, and we’re
; all packing at breakneck speed so
’ we can .get to Lost Valley by the
. weekend.
Of course the end of school and
graduation brings confusion to
■ everyone who has children in their
; family.. Clara Ahlberg was mak-
! ing plans to go to Houston this
, week to see Shirley Buzan gradu-
ate from high school down there.
Laverne and Louis Buzan’s oldest
daughter got iher diploma from
Austin High in the coast city.
Come to think of it, Paula Wat-
son must be graduating in Hous-
ton too. She was just beginning
high school when Paul and Doro-
thy moved which means that
Bruce is about a sophomore and
Craig -will be going into the
eighth grade.
Several Taylorites were in
Brownwood last week when W. W.
Lynch was given an honorary de-
gree from Howard Payne and they
saw Sally ana Gene Lindley at the
reception that followed the cere-
mony. They’re just doing fine but
G.CBKV did Slave to leave the party
to take care of an emergency
snakebit case. He says that the
snakes are keeping people jump
. MgTaround Brownwood. Worst sea-
/ son people have known in years.
Pauline and Jack Osborn, along
3‘. with Mick and Larry, made a
: quick trip to Taylor over the week-
end: That is, they came in Satur-
•’•.;„4>iy and left Sunday because Jack
’ “had ?:0-got back to Jacksonville
going to be in charge
of summer school. Their school
had hern out for several days and
7 Mick and'Larry got the old “my
• how you’ve grown” treatment
■ from everyone . , . and they
really have too. The Osborns all
like East Texas very much. Larry
finished the first grade and Mick
"is up in high school now.
' • Tholilla and Elmore Torn have
bein submerged in visitors, but
they don’t mind a bit. Rip and
Anne Torn and their cute little
girl got to pop in on his parents
when he had some unexpected
time, between assignments. Thel-
ma’s mother and sister were: over
Saturday for a visit and then the
immediate family went to Ft.
Worth on Sunday to visit with Pat
and her family. Naturally the
newegt ; grandson was the center
of attention. Rip’s elated over his
chance at playing Judas in the
remake, of “King of Kings.”
There’s' a Shdw" business tradition
tha^t. the actor, who plays that role
is. visited with' continued success.
By. now he’s on his way to Spain
where the picture is being made.
College students are coming and
going. LuAnna Moore has already
left for San Marcos where she’s
going, to summer school, so she
had a brief stop between that and
the end of her term at Baylor.
Ed Griffith has gotten a bit of
golf in and is already looking for-
ward to going to Red River, New
Mexico for some fishing. Ken Mc-
Conchie had his dad out playing
catch in the front yard and sister
Mary K. was a lazy spectator.
Gene Raesz will work in Austin if
he doesn’t get a heavy job here
to keep him in shape for next
season’s play with the Rice Owls.
It’s certainly nice to see all the
exes coming home just as Taylor
acquires a brand new crop of
graduates.
Today’s recipes have to be cool
for nothing else sounds the least
bit interesting.

tor tray until mushy. Stir well,

tional cream and whole straw-
berries.

LET’S GO TO CHURCH SUNDAY
This man can see for many,
many miles, but he’s not up in the
clouds; his feet are on the ground!
Contrary to what some people
.think, that’s what the Church does
for a man, too. Certainly it gives
him a broader vision; it lifts up his
eyes to see God and the eternal val-
ues of love, truth, justice and service
which. God inspires. It gives him a
divine perspective from which to
View his job, his family, his country
— his life!
But the Church always keeps
that man’s feet on the ground! It
accepts him for what he is —
gardless of the clothes he wears or
the job he holds. It looks evil in the
.face and sees it for what it is —a
devilish cancer which only God can
cure. It keeps a man squarely in this
world while it lifts up his eyes to
see another beyond the horizon.
And this is what the Church can
do for you! It can give you greater
vision. But it’s not up in the clouds.
It keeps your feet on the ground 1
