Girls Earn $900
For Europe Trip
SEATTLE OP)—“You’d be sur-
prised how hard it is to get $900
by getting it 50 cents at a time.”
But Vonnie Brodine, 17, and her
sister, Vickie, 16, got it, and
they’re on their way to Europe to
spend it.
They visited Europe four years
ago with their parents and liked
it so much they decided they’d go
again.
They earned the money baby-
sitting, clerking and working in
the public library.
The girls will be on their own
until they return home to Seattle
about Aug. 23.

$225 Millson Paid
On Export- Cotton
WASHINGTON ®-The govern-
ment is paying out 225 million dol-
lars on U.S. cotton sold up to
May 13 for export during the mar-
keting year ending Aug. 1.
The government is offering a
subsidy of 8 cents a pound on cot-
ton sold abroad during the year.
The Agriculture Department said
that about 6% million bales had
been registered for export as of
May 13. Exporters had earned
subsidy credits totaling about 225
million dollars, it said.
The subsidy is offered to offset
difference between the U.S. grow
er supported price and lower com-
petitive prices in world markets.
