Subscription. Five dollars per annum ; three dol-
lars for six months and two dollars for three months.
" Advertising. For each square of 100 words or un-
der first insertion one dolUr. For each subsequent
insertion fifty cents.
A deduction of fifty per cent will be made upon
yearly advertisements with the privilege of renewing
the same quarterly.
Announcement of candidates for office ten dollars
Postinastcrs" Sheriff and Clerks of Courts arc
specially authorized to procure subscriptions and ad"
verliscments and collect and remit the money therefor.
An allowance of ten per cent upon all sums be-
tween twenty-five and fifty dollars and of twenty
per cent upon ail sums over fifty dollars will be

By the President of the Republic of Texas.
A PROCLAMATION.
WHEREAS since the close of the last session
of Congress a Joint Resolution respecting
the Annexation of Texas to the United
States has by their Congress been adopted
authorizing the President of the United
States to select the alternative of two certain
propositions contained in the said Joint
Resolution as the basis for consummating
the proposed annexation:
And whereas the President of the United
States has selected the Jzrsf and second sec-
tions of the Resolution as such basis and
notified this Government thereof which
sections are as follows viz :
"Resolved by the Senate and House of
Representatives of the united States of Ameri-
ca in Congress assembled That Congress
doth consent that the territory properly in-
cluded within and rightfully belonging to the
Republic of Texas may be erected into a new
State to be called the State of Texas with a
Republican form of Government to be adopt-
ed by the people of said Republic by deputies
in Convention assembled with the consent of
the existing Government in order that the
same may be admitted as one of the States of
this Union.
"2. And be it further resolved That the
foregoing consent of Congress is given upon
the following conditionsand with the following
guarantees to wit ;
First. Said State to be formed subject to
the adjustment by this Government of all
questions of boundary that may arise with
other Governments and the Constitution
1 hereof with the proper evidence of its adop-
tion by the people of said Republic of
Texas shall be transmitted to the President
of the United States to he laid before Congress
for its filial action on or before the first day of
January one thousand eight hundred aud
forty-six. ... li":
"Second. Said State when admitted into the
Union after ceding to the United States all
public edifices fortifications barracks ports
and harbors navy and navy-yards docksr
tion of said territory lying south of thirty-six
degrees thirty minutes north latitude common-
ly known as the Missouri compromise line
shall be admitted into the Union with or with-
out slavery as the people of each State asking
admission may desife. And in such State or
States ns shall be formed out of said territory
north of said Missouri compromise line slave-
ry or involuntary servitude (except for crimej
shall be prohibited."
. And whereas the premises requiring the
solemn deliberation and action of the Represen-
tatives of the people form an extraordinary
occasion lor convening the Congress of the
Republic
Therefore be it known that I ANSON
JONES President of the Republic of Texas
by virtue of the power vested in me by the
Constitution do by these presents require
that the Senators and Representatives to Con-
gress of this Republic shall assemble in spe-
cial session at the Town of Washington in
the County of Washington on Monday the
sixteenth day of June next ensuing then and
there to receive such communications ns may
be made to them and to consult and deter-
mine on such measures as in their wisdom
may be deemed meet for the welfare of Texas

Great seal of the Republic to be hereunto
affixed. Done at theTown of Washington
this fifteenth day of April in the
year of our Lord one thousand

THE NEW ORLEANS WEEKLY
BULLETIN Published every Satur-
day from the office of the New Orleans Com-
mercial Bulletin Price three dollars a year.
With a view to give this publication greater
value for circulation in the interior and espe
cially to recommend it to the Planting Inte
rest the proprietor has engaged a distinguish-
ed chemist aud proficient in cience to furnish
a series of essays on the adaptation of Che-
mistry and the kindred Sciences to the im-
provement of Agriculture. This subject is
awakening extraordinary interest both in Eu-
rope and America and the discoveries which
have been made bid fair to work a revolution
in rural pursuits. The essays above spoken
of are designed to be practicial in their cha-
racter and especially adapted to the South-
west. The publication of them has already
commenced and will be continued at short in-
tervals. A series of letters on the general progress of
Scientific Discovery from a gentleman whose
pursuits are entirely of a scientific nature
have also been engaged. These letters it is
proposed to be published at intervals of a
month or six weeks. They are designed to
furnish a historical and connected account of
all important improvements inventions rind
discoveries as they transpire. The publica-
tion of these last named papers will probably
commence about the 15th of May next.
The valuable and interesting essays above
spoken of are intended of course to he in
addition to the ordinary contents of the pnper
which comprise a full and accurate chronicle
of all events of importance ;. political com-
mercial shipping and miscellaneous intelli-
gence; public documents of importance both
state and national; reviews of the home and
foreign markets ; &c. fyc.
An abstract of the decisions of the Supreme
Court of Louisiana prepared by the Reporter
to the Court is still published in the Bulletin
as the decisions are delivered and become final.
Attention is also given to important decisions

courts of the different States.
The price of the Weekly Bulletin is three
dollars a year when payment is made in ad-
vance at the office or remitted without expense
to the publisher. In other cases five dollars
is charged. April 12th 1845

Texas ; shall retain all the public funds debts
tuxes and dues of every kind which may be-
long to or be due and owing said Republic ;
and shall also retain all the vacant and unap-
propriated lands lying within its limits to be
applied to the payment of the debts and lia
bilities of said Republic of Texas and the
residue of said lands after discharging said
debts and liabilities to be disposed of as said
State may direct: but in no event are said
debts and liabilities to become a charge upon
the Government of the United States.

which shall be entitled to admission under the

inform the citizens of Washington county arrd those
in the vicinity who are raising wheat rye. &c that
he is prepared to manufacture it for them into the
best quality of superfine FLOUR. His Mill 5:cnes
for flouring are inferior to none. The whole of the
labor is performed by water power in the same. style
as the merchant mills of the north. Wheat after be -ing
put into the hopper is returned to the same bags
made into its several varieties without assistance.
Toll for manufacturing flour one-sixth.
Those who wish to avail themselves of this oppor-
tunity are requested to send their wheat immediately
after harvest while there is plenty of water. The
Mills are situated on the east side of the Brazos two
miles and one-quarter E. S. East of Moore's Fern'
where the subscriber will pay the ferriage for those
wagons which bring 30 bushels of wheat or upwards.
