and for the information of tho cjtizens of
Brazotia county the undersigned would
call their attention to the 12tti section of
the tax law which will bo found below.

"Sec. 12. Be it further enacted. That
during the month of November the sher-
iff of each and eyery county throughout
this Republic shall make his returns to
the Secretary of the Treasury and pay
over to him the amount of monies which
he may havo collected for taxes due to
the Republic uuder the provisions of ths
law and all those who havp not paid
their .quota of taxes to the sheriff of the
respective county when it ni?y be due
by time in which under this section
it is made the duty of the -sheriff to
make returns to the Secietary of tho
the Treasury shall be considered as de-
lin;iicms and a list of them shall be
made out exprcssiug names and amount
of taxes due by each from the list in pos-
session of the sheriff (which he received
from the assessor) by an officer of the
Treasury Department and to which shall
bo fixed a certificate of tho Secretary for
iisrorrer.tnesf and shall then bo .handed
to the tespectivo sheriff (and a copy of it
shall be published by order of tho Depart-
ment) whose duty it shall be within one
month after ho shall have received it from
the Departciout to present and delivor it
to the District Court; and it is hereby
nvido the duty of said clerk on receiving
such list of delinquents to issue execution
against the property of such delinquents
when the amount of tax due requires the

personal property it .shall be advertised
at three or more public places in the coun-
ty for twenty davs previous to the day of

Town Ordinance.
In Council .June 1 1840.
BE it ordained by ihe Bpardjof Alder
men of the corporation of the Town of
Brazoria that an inspector shall be ap-
pointed by ihe Mayor whose duty it
shall he to examine and register the
marks and brands of all neat cattle that
may be bulcherod between .the Brazos
and San Bernard rivers the flesh of
w"lc sla" ne orougnt inio mis mwn
for sale or consumption; und it shall be
the duty of all persons who may butch-
er such cattle within said limits and
who hall bring ihe beef into the town
for the purposes aforesaid to produce
to the said inspector immediately .there-
after tho. hides showing tho marks and
brands of the cattle so killed; and who-
ever shall be guilty of a violation of this
ordinance shall upon conviction there-
of pay afiueof $50 one half.of which
.shall be paid to tbe informer.
Be it further ordained that the in-
spector .appointed as aforesaid shall
hold his .office at -.the will and pleasure
of the Mayor; hehall rep rt nil viola-
tions of this ordinance ; and he shall
moreover report to the Mayor qn the
first Monday of every month a state.

and collect from the owners of the cat-
ilf or beet the sum of 50 cents in sound
currency for eaeh examination made by
him as aforesaid.
Be it further ordained that this ordi-

ration .of ten days from the date ihoreof
Resolved That the owners of property
in this town bo required to cut down the
weeds ou their premises aud'jn front of
the samo; and on their failnre to do so
that the street committee be required to
have it done at the cost of the owners.
